    f.lux - does it work?

I just came across f.lux on a typical internet browse.

Has anyone used it? Downloading it is free. The main claim is that you helps you sleep better.

Ever notice how people texting at night have that eerie blue glow?

Or wake up ready to write down the Next Great Idea, and get blinded by your computer screen?

During the day, computer screens look good—they're designed to look like the sun. But, at 9PM, 10PM, or 3AM, you probably shouldn't be looking at the sun.

    f.lux
f.lux fixes this: it makes the color of your computer's display adapt to the time of day, warm at night and like sunlight during the day.

It's even possible that you're staying up too late because of your computer. You could use f.lux because it makes you sleep better, or you could just use it just because it makes your computer look better.

f.lux makes your computer screen look like the room you're in, all the time. When the sun sets, it makes your computer look like your indoor lights. In the morning, it makes things look like sunlight again.

Tell f.lux what kind of lighting you have, and where you live. Then forget about it. f.lux will do the rest, automatically.
Link and to download or free: f.lux: software to make your life better

    I downloaded it.

    It's fast, easy, and free.

Yes, I like it. It's great. And of course, you can disable it for 1 hour, or pause/stop it anytime.

I seriously think posters should try it out. If you don't like it, delete it.

I'm using/trying it and it seems fine. My anti-virus didn't pick anything up and the comments on the website mentioned above seem to say that it's not true too.

I'm just trying it our for it's novelty factor. I'll probably delete it tomorrow unless I actually find it useful - which I doubt.

I never considered anything a problem.

I installed it without a problem but don't find it any use.
I have the colour temp turned down on my monitor normally so I don't see any change.

    I've uninstalled it now.

    To each their own, Thetyim.

But I think f.lux is better than turning down my colour temp on my monitor.

    f.lux is automatic.

I like it. I love it!

Samsung monitors have about 5 different settings for stuff like this as standard, so it's pointless for me.

Does this even install an executable called flux.exe?

If not, then you have nothing to fear.

I have about half a dozen different colour profiles for my monitors too depending on what I am doing, I wouldn't want the computer deciding it's sleepy time when I am 'shopping something.

    OK, guys.

To my chagrin, I have changed my mind. I don't like f.lux anymore.

    How do I uninstall it?

    Thanks (I'm a neophyte).

    maybe something like this

    Windows Uninstall
Go to the f.lux Settings panel (to the left of your system clock)
    Choose "Quit f.lux"
Go to the Start Menu > Add/Remove Programs > Uninstall f.lux

IMPORTANT: if you uninstall before quitting f.lux, in some cases, f.lux's color remains after uninstalling. The fastest workaround is to reinstall, then quit f.lux (your screen should appear normal). Uninstall according to the instructions above. This is a high priority bug that will be addressed in a future release.
