The best earphones for your 'device'?

The earphones that came with my fantastic Sony Xperia were fantastic too in a titillating kinda way, but I soon got bored of multiple electric shocks per second in my ear, so decided to buy some more.

I went to an iShop which had a large selection of various brands. Firstly, I tried 2 expensive(ish) pairs of Nakamichis (3,500 and 2,500 baht), but one didn't fit and the other sounded awful - far too 'pure' a noise... I then moved down to about 1,500 to 2,000 baht and tried various ones: JBL, other stuff. The ones that sounded best were a pair of Denons at 1,590 baht.

    DENON UK | AH-C260

They seem pretty good (no doubt could have got them cheaper if I'd looked around, but wanted some there and then as I was getting on a long distance(ish) bus). Very comfortable, and pleasant enough sound.

    What have you got?

What are the best at sensible money?

    What are just the best?

Oh yeah, and, if you want headphones that can also have a microphone and can be used for calls that come in while you're listening to music - is the sound ok/crap/good? Any suggesions?

    This answers my last question...:

The AH-C260R features the same high-quality sound as the AH-C260 but also has a 3-button remote controller and mic that let you perform a variety of functions such as playing music on an iPod or answering an incoming call on an iPhone.

Maybe I should have done some research first...

No mic but the sound sweet i listen to bassy music and they just about handle some sub bass. They were brought just to listen to music on my phone.Try Select cuts from blood and fire on your head phones and see how they handle it.

I can't even find that on Youtube...

My usual benchmark would be a classic George Michael rift. Actually, I played a few, see how they handle the Pixies, Skunk Anansie, Peter gabriel, Sneaker Pimps and this classic:

    The Denons have decent base.

Denon AH-C260 In Ear Headphones Review | Tomology.co.uk

I reckon the soundstaging and the clarity of distinct areas is pretty good, better than others I listen to. & very comfortable.

I notice that the treble is tinny at high volumes, but I think this is true of all cheap headphones (certainly it was worse on the others I tried).

They play that track well, KT - much much better than the laptop speakers or th cheap KER sp-858s that I sue as external speakers on my laptop.

The bass is maybe a little too controlled on the Denons; the track felt like it could handle a bit (a suggestion of?) wallow, but none on the Denons which made me feel the bass wasn't allowed to fully breathe, but I'm nitpicking.

They sound ok then that was a good comparison laptop speakers miss out 50% of the music on that track.Put some decent headphones on and and a good mix of bass and treble to test out there frequency response.

OK it was the wettest May and June on record in Britain,
and it's pissing it down again today and foggy too.
but there are advantages to been stuck here,
yes you can get your hands on a pair of these -
introducing the Rolls Royce of headphones ! :

    comfortable full over ear
a stonking 40 mm bass driver = insane rumbling
In line volume control now that's important to have ,
on full it can be too loud ; so no more vainly reaching to try to turn up an annoyingly quiet track to see the volume is already on max - then finding yourself doing the same thing every 15 seconds till you go mad .
The wire connection around the jack socket is still 100 % too , after 6 months, many even pricy ones ,after a while start to cut out every now and then .

Don't be fooled by the price - sound great
    From Argos
    Bargain
    500 Baht

^ Blue, mate, I'd be too ashamed to wear them on the BTS, we care about style here in Bangkok...

^^ yep, sounded like no bass at all on the crappy laptop speakers.

I find the in ear buds get uncomfortable quickly.

I now use Bowers & Wilkins P5 and am very happy with them. They'll be quite a bit more than blue's 500 baht ones though.

Silly money... Cannot justify that; I could buy a runaround car for the missus instead...

The cheapest ones are 3 times the price of my Denons and don't score any higher in the reviews I've been reading; half the range is above $350... stupid.

Dr Dre does some nice earphones now

    Beats by Dre
After 25 years, Dr. Dre was tired of spending months on a track only to have his fans hear it on weak, distorting earbuds. Two years and hundreds of prototypes later, Beats Studio headphones are the icons that bring you sound the way it was originally intended.
POWERFUL ENOUGH TO BLOCK OUT A JET ENGINE.

Powered by a pair of AAA batteries, the noise cancellation feature in a pair of Beats Studio headphones amplifies the music as it blocks out noise, giving you consistently powerful and intense sound.
    EXTRA COMFORTABLE EAR CUPS.

Super plush and covered with ultra-soft breathable materials, you’ll be cool and comfortable even during marathon listening sessions. The Beats by Dr. Dre logo on the side also acts as a mute button when you press it. No need to take them off to talk
    A FLAWLESS AND ICONIC FIT.

Designers of Beats Studio headphones conducted a series of ergonomic studies to find the perfect lightweight, foldable headphone that always delivers a comfortable fit. The result is a design now copied by brands around the world
