Buying Advice Required! & a poll...

So the missus needs a new phone. I gave her the money to buy a new laptop a few months ago, but she just put it in the bank and now keeps complaining that her laptop doesn't work... I gave her the money (only a little bit... ) to buy a very cheap phone last month, but she put the money in the bank, and now keeps complaining that her phone (as well as my 4 year old Nokia I kindly gave her...) doesn't work...

So, I am seriously considering taking things into my own hands and just buying one for her! I have 6 options split into 2 groups.

The two groups are: a phone that is exciting and can do stuff; or a tablet. She does a bit of buying from Chinatown then selling it via the internet, so a phone/tablet is useful. Her 1 product line has been so averagely successful that I'm thinking about putting a little webpage up for her (new thread required ), so she can expand her product range, slowly as the products sell...

Group 1, phones, but Android ones to help her with her mini-business:

Samsung Galaxy Ace 2, suggested by Baldrick, seems to be a good phone, just under 10k.



HTC One, I think it's just over 10k.



Sony Xperia Sola, around 10k.



Or, group 2, a tablet, to do business, you can Bluetooth as a phone with the Samsung.

Samsung Galaxy tab 7, it's about 13k



The new Google Nexus 7 thingy, I think it's under 10k, but I'm not sure.



The classic iPad 2 at 13.5k.



My feeling is that she wants a Phone, and she keeps mentioning Samsung, so Baldrick's suggestion is a good one. But, her laptop is fuked, so if I got her the Samsung 7" tablet then I could kill 2 birds with one stone; she already has a Bluetooth headset...

Which buy is the best in this case, and should I buy it meself, take her to the shop with me and let her try them out or just give her the money?

The Galaxy Tab 7, 2 has 3G and phone capability, so I reckon that would be best of the tablets. If she doesn't like it, well I can just keep it meself. I'm liking this, but not sure if she'll prefer a phone? The 7" is small, will fit in her bag and she can feel like a businesswoman as she goes around speaking on the headset. But the phones will be better as a phone...

I'm with Baldrick. My daughter had one of those, until she took away my IPhone4 which I couldn't use, and she liked it. Now she has both. Just buy it for her, since she appears to bank money, and dither even more than you (if possible).

I like the look of the The new Google Nexus 7 thingy, and if it is under 10k I think thats pretty good value. Nice size too.

I think the ipad is a bit too big and it drive me nuts having to use itunes to transfer stuff to it. Especially when using more than one computer and more than one apple product. Lack of USB port sucks too.

^ the problem with that is that it cannot be used as a phone, as far as I'm aware. &, it only has a front facing camera - she's a Thai woman, so she'll probably want to take pics of things... It does seem like a good product though - I think if I hadn't have bought my Kindle (which I'm very happy with) and wanted a cheap tablet then I might have gone for this. Actually, I wouldn't - it's not 3G either. I think you need 3G when you're out and about, working, coffeeshops, etc. That's the price you pay for a cheap price; it's just missing a couple of useful features/hardware...

I've done some reading up and the Sony Xperias seem to be better (the Xperia U and Xperia Sola), but she is Thai and thus sheepish (not in that way unfortunately) thus the Samsungs are probably the best bet - but phone or tablet?

Also, I looked at the Samsung Galaxy S Advance at 12.9k, but the cheaper Samsung seems a much better buy judging from the reviews.

Go for the Phablet.

Big enough for a tablet, light enough for a phone, big battery (but you can get extenders), stylus for making notes, etc.

And you can get it in Pink so she'll love it just for that.

A couple of months ago, as I wrote on another thread, an insurance guy came round and sorted out our claim with his Galaxy 7 tab; I thought it was pretty impressive. A good business tool.

The point of the Note is so you don't have to get her a phone AND/OR a more expensive tablet.

It serves quite nicely as both, it's cheaper than the Galaxy and if she wants to use a bluetooth headset she can.

PLUS with the SIII out and the Note II coming, the price of the Note will continue to drop.

The Midget was looking at smartphones a week or so ago, and I said they're for smart people so they're only for foreigners. Thai phones are 500B in Tescos.

She had an iPad Touch which she liked, but couldn't be used as a phone (11k, lots of money for that...), so the little Smsung Smartphone will please her. The Tablet is a good 'un too.
