Help. Canon printer with ink tanks

I got a Canon MP258 with CISS ink tanks.
It started flashing the low ink light a week ago and now it has decided that the ink has run out.
The tanks have plenty of ink of course it's just that the ink counter has decided that it's time to change the cartridges.

So how do I reset the ink light?

Please don't tell me to hit the reset button for 30 seconds, I've already tried that and it don't work

Are these proper tanks or fake/refilled ones?

Thetyim, are the external ink reservoirs after market add on's or were the external ink reservoirs included in the box or otherwise a Canon product?

The ink tanks are an after market add-on.
They were added by the computer shop from new

Try going into printer properties and 'deep clean' the ink heads.

How is that going to help ?
It prints fine as an offline copier.
The ink is getting to the heads.
The problem is that the software has decided that the OEM cartridges are empty.

I want to know how to reset the ink level

It's not connected I don't think but for some reason it seems to sort out things when I've had similar problems with my cannon xi4000.

I had a similar model and needed to hold 2 buttons down for 30secs to reset something. The tank guy had a sticker on the printer to remind us but I can't remember exactly what it said.

who buy ink cartridge printers these days ? it has been one of the biggest scam for at least 10 years

buy a laser color printer with toner, more reliable and cheaper on a per copy basis

the ink things always have some kind of problem eventually

That's why I went for the ink tanks.
Theoretically I shouldn't have to buy any more cartridges but it doesn't seem to be working out that way.
The B&W cartridge has already been replaced.

My B&W laser printer has just packed up. Only lasted one toner cartridge and then bit the dust.
Too expensive to repair and a new colour replacement ain't cheap. Especially as I'm a low volume user.

I'm off down the compy shop to see if they can get it working without buying another new cartridge.
If it does need another cartridge then the Epson L200 with original ink tanks will get to the top of my shopping list.

Perhaps Canon found it a convenient market in which to dump them? Seems such a weird design.

I had those side ink tanks put on my Cannon printer when I bought it. Had nothing but problems with the set-up. Ended up taking the whole thing off and buying cartridges. Found a computer print shop around the corner to refill the cartridges.

You can really make a big mess playing around with those tanks trying to get the ink flowing properly.

Colour lasers are so cheap these days, I think that's the way to go.

But of course it depends how much you're printing, do the maths on pages/cartridge set, how much colour you really need, etc.

the main problem I have is that the ink dries out if not used enough. I suppose a laser printer would be my answer?

I took the printer back to the compy shop this morning.
They said "Nothing wrong with it"
I brought it back home and it now works.

Do Canon printers like going for a ride in the car or what?

possibly the turning off the power and then turning it back on allowed the printer to reset..... ??? who knows.

They did the 'reset' and gave it back. When was the last time a Thai said 'Why yes Sir we forgot to tell you you need to xyz and we are sorry, entirely our fault.'

I think this what I had to do with mine.

Home printers are a waste of money. Always have been.

I got fed up with the ritual of buying a new printer every fucking year

Now if I need anything printed I just email it to the local print shop, they print it for a couple of baht per sheet and will either drop it around or I'll walk down the street and pick it up.

For large photos, etc. I just load them on a thumb drive and take them round. Commercial quality printers do a far better/cheaper job than any home/small office printer.

Plus if you have kids they have no concept of ink/photo paper costs if you have your own printer and will drain it dry if you turn your back for an hour.

Mine understand the concept of "I will die if I touch anything on Daddy's desk". Seems to work.
