I usually turn off the computers at home, but I leave the office computer on (for years at a time) with no issues.

Mine is left on 24/7 as I download heavily during the day and stream media from it at night. I use a LCD HDTV for a monitor so I have to manually turn it off if going out for the day or to bed.

Let it sleep. I used to turn mine on and off and about eight years ago, a computer tech was at the house and told me that was bad for the computer, and to just leave it on. So, I have and, in eight years, no problems.

I turn mine off most nights unless I'm downloading something

All the dust that builds up inside them could potentially catch fire, I guess.

There are other moral reasons for turning it off too

A new study estimates the cost of leaving computers on overnight at a staggering $2.8 billion a year, and that’s in the U.S. alone. Considering it takes less than a minute to shut down a computer (that’s if you have a dozen applications to close first), and a few minutes to boot up the next morning (which the computer can be doing while you’re preparing your favorite morning beverage), it’s utterly irresponsible to not shut your computer down each night.

I'm always downloading something so mine is on 24/7.

Only off when we have a power outage since my UPS died a few months ago.

I turn mine off at night.
The electricity supply in Thailand cannot be trusted.
A power cut should be no problem but a brown out might be a problem.
Also lightning can cause damage both from electric and telephone cables.

Mine is on 24/7. Only time it's rebooted is for a software update or if a power cut lasts longer than my UPS batteries.

I usually don't turn off my iMac and never reboot it unless needed after an update. I turn off the laptop though.
I've found that the alu iMac 24" consumes only 2,69W on 230V power while in sleep with Wake-On-Lan functionality on.

From the technical point of view is always good to turn it off.

    Do explain.

From the saving electricity point of view, it's a good idea, but what else is there?

    MTBF?

To be honest if you do your Windows updates faithfully, you're going to have to reboot it once in a while, so saving the 'leccy is probably the only benefit.
