Have you been to Hong Kong lately

I have not been to HK since the early 2000s, but will be there for 3 days in July before going to Mongolia.
Any latest hotel recommendations? There are so many on Booking etc, that it is overwhelming, looking for places esteemed members might have been to and liked. No budget really in mind, just want clean, decent places to eat and drink close and not a mission to get to from the airport. When I do no budget in mind, I do mean that a suite at Upper House is not in my league 555. Speaking of places to eat and drink- what is good in 2025 that you liked?

My visit to HK was years ago. Re: hotel, choose any which is in Chungking Mansion for the atmosphere.

As for attractions, I liked the Big Buddha on Lantau island, also the Ladies street market for shopping. Victoria's Peak(?) - I forgot what it's called but you can go there via cable car or bus.

    As for food, can't remember...

Haven't been there in about 8 years but recall it's a bit like Singapore for accommodation, expensive and shoebox size rooms. Maybe I didn't look hard enough? Great place though

It's a bit like Chatuchak Market, there's something for everyone. Lots of clothes, shoes, etc - can haggle. I think I bought fridge magnets & keychains.

I stayed at BP International last year in Tsim Sha Tsui. Advertised as a 4*, but more as a low 3*

    Location was very good though.

Can get the train from the airport and then a very short taxi to the hotel.

Just up the road in Mong Kok you have Ladies Market, Sneaker Street if you like shoes and loads of food options.

    Star Ferry pier

Victoria Peak was ok. They have a Burger King at the top that sells beer.

Lan Kwai Fong for pub area

Went for 3 days. Not my cup of tea, not in a rush to go back.

Oh, they have Lucozade and good selection of cheap beers in the 7-11's, so not a wasted trip.
    Black diamonds? I shit 'em.

Last year I had a one night stay, I was on a budget and I wanted an easy airport journey on public transport.

I chose the Dorsett Mongkok and it worked out well enough for me. From the airport it is train to Tsing Yi and change. The airport train goes through Olympic Station, walking distance with hand luggage, but it doesn't stop there.
The room was clean and tidy and nearly big enough to walk around the bed. It worked for me and I'd stay there again.
I used to know that area, nearly 50 years ago. It has changed a bit. I did not have time to try but there were a few decent looking small bars nearby, maybe Fuk Chak street or a block either way and food choices around and about. I didn't have time to try any. HK is so cosmopolitan that I guess you'd be okay in English but some Chinese would be helpful.
Olympic station is a straight run on the MTR to Central and if Lan Kwai Fong is your thing, there you are. I used to go there back in the days when I earned money and was a few years younger.
Lockhart road in Wanchai, the western end, has long been a hangout of foreigners. Pretty much all a man needs can be found in Lockhart Road.

Handy hint, if you’re leaving late on your final day you can check your bags at the main train terminal in town and they’ll take your checked bags for you. Save you lugging them around all day.
