wanted cheap tuk tuk etc in chiang mai/rai

hi, im after something cheap to buy on the lines of tuk tuk etc, im on about comming next week on train as have never been train before and fancy a bit of fun drive somthing back down to chonburi.

so if ya got or know somthing thats for sale in the chaing mai or rai area please let me know.

No problem driving it where ever you like as it is a private vehicle, think 2nd hand they are like 70,000baht, so an expensive crap toy.

well im hoping for somthing cheaper, but bieng a farang somehow it will go up to 90,000 and i wont get one, there are some good value ones in udon so if i dont get owt at right money in chaimg mai/rai ill hang on again, i wanted one for 5 years now so im in no rush.

mainly a different form of transport down for laugh than owt, as dont want fly or go in car its the train drive im off for.

if you want a cheap tuktuk, maybe the best people to ask are the drivers - they can tell you who owns their fleet

I helped my wifes boss buy one about 5 or 6 years ago from a tuk tuk driver I know. I think it was only about 35,000bt. It was a complete shit heap so I doubt they've gone up in price.

Her boss wanted to use it as a pit car at the race track in Pattaya.

Anyway, the bit you said you didn't want to hear but I think it's helpful:

The tuk tuk driver and my brother in law tried to drive it from Bangkok where we bought it, to Pattaya. But the Police stopped them just outside Chonburi and said they couldn't drive it across provinces, and made them turn back. The only way that they would let us take it down there was on the back of a flat bed truck.

That was a few years ago so things may have changed but I'd check it out first if I were you.

You say you are going by train, from where ? I have caught the train a few times in Thailand. The overnight sleepers are quite good comfortable and good service. Dont Dont be tempted to go 3rd class for the experience. We caught 3rd class from Chiang Mai to BKK once it was fun and enjoyable for the first hour the next 14 hours where like hell on earth we thought the pain and discomfort would never end. It reminded me of my time in the back of 4 tonner during my army days. I repeat Dont do it. I drove last year from Korat to Chiang Mai I took my time ( I drive like an old woman ) after 12 hours I was as fresh as a daisy compared to that 3rd class train.

always up for fun, if it comes off it be a larf, and if it dont, not a problem, were always going on trips anyways so we always just make best and we do tend to get in the odd spot oh and alcohol

We have caught the overnight sleeper 1st class from hualumphong to Chiang Mai and back a couple of times. Never been on the rapid though. As for smoking go to the toilet and blow the smoke out of the window no probs. 3rd class no smoking in carriage but you can smoke between carriages. Downside it gets to packed to move and if you do manage to get to the edge to have a ciggy you are in danger of being accidentally pushed off the train. The one and only thing I liked about 3rd class was the dried beef and sticky rice they sold on there. Enjoy the trip whatever you choose.

Oh yeah go to Hualomphong station to get your tickets a couple of days before you travel as the sleepers sell out pretty quick, and do the same at Chiang Mai or if you have a definite return date book a return. Thats why we ended up on 3rd class back to BKK the 1st time we got the train, and not because I was trying to relive my youth.
Once again enjoy the train as for the Tuk Tuk thing Blimey.

cheers again, as for going Hualomphong were down in pattaya so dont think thats fesible as its about 2 hours away, so its a go and get what we can i think from what you say.

at leat cigs aint a problem thats great news to me not bothered about beds etc can do all that later.
