The Gekko Pub is also a good place to hang out, and has a usual crowd of expats. Rudi does a great job with the food and it is located not far from the downtown haunts.

A trio of extras:
The Ironwood - Thai food in an outdoor setting in the forest. Chickens and Ducks walking around. Well presented, tasty food and not hideously expensive. Got a Michelin star for one of its dishes a couple of years ago.
Time - in the grounds of the Na Nirand hotel. Pricey but amazing food and a lovely riverside setting. They do a minced prawn in crispy lychee in a crab sauce, it is fucking lovely.
River Rock Cafe - off the main road near Mae Sa Waterfall, medium price, good food, great coffee and desserts and an Indiana Jones style bridge to cross to get to it, although you sometimes have to wait a few minutes while the selfie mob take a dozen fucking pictures on it.
The next post may be brought to you by my little bitch Spamdreth
Hazza there is nothing wrong with being frugal, cheap even, so why not admit it.
I once booked the tasting menu with wine pairing at The Dome at Lebua as a treat for a couple of friends who'd just got engaged. It was probably out of the "25 quid gourmand"'s price bracket to be fair.
Trouble is two days before I left Chiang Mai I got a steaming cold, so by the time we got there I was treated to the other three telling me how delicious everything was when I couldn't taste a fucking thing
We live in a country where some of the best food cost peanuts, but I'm enjoying swanning around the north finding different places to try, some turn out to be expensive tourist shit, some are cheap tourist shit, some are expensive and worth it, some are cheap and unbelievably good.
If you want one of the best khao soys you'll ever taste, squander 40 baht here (I stopped counting in "quids" 35 years ago).
I actually really like the beef version.

Oh, and did I mention that execrable River Market will be reopening as a Mediterranean restaurant?
Not a big deal Harry, I have stayed at Lebua (always go for Tower Club to get lounge access and better room) many times. Have dined at Sirocco restaurant more times than I care to remember. My evening tab would probably sustain you for 6 months of your pov living in CM.
Now friends that just got engaged? Where would a cantankerous old curmudgeon like you you get friends? Are you sure it wasn’t last year when you were celebrating the wife’s 21st.
I guess there is a difference of opinion as to what consistute the "best restaurants" (plural) in Chiangmai.
For me it's 100% about the food as opposed to whether or not they put the Blue Nun in a pint glass
This is arguably the best Bt40 you'll ever spend on food in CM, but if you rate the place on the tablecloths, you'd never go there.
^^ 3 scraps of chicken/pigeon in that 90p one
I like Sunflower Chinese lunch buffet on 22d floor Dunagtawan Hotel Loy Kroi twixt the Muay Thai and Night Market open to non guest, rarely eed book unless ou first time ad wat a window view but saves going out in the rain, precious few locals as fairly stiiff eveinng weekend pricing excludes lace ironers ad DIY crowd.Buffet lunch s 666 plus taxes I recall with a few scoops about 1000 a head
Standard Yum Cha , in cool elegant , impeccable service serene surroundings with the best views of the hoi polloi from Doi Suthep to chez noona's and the in-laws
Duangtawan Hotel Chiang Mai
Address: 119 Loi Kroh Rd, Tambon Chang Khlan, Mueang Chiang Mai District, Chiang Mai 50100, Thailand

David,
Duangtawan hotel has an excellent gym - top notch for a hotel
unfortunately that is only thing I can recommend about it other than it’s very good location
Takemy BSamcook home 16 for a restaurant recommendation-it has the added benefit that you won’t see Harry there
Had a delightful lunch at Terra, behind the Four Season in Mae Rim the other day. Not cheap but worth it.
Has anyone tried the revamped River Market yet? It appears to have reopened as "international cuisine" although the sign while remodelling said "Mediterranean".
What has happened to your 6 quid little buffet restaurant? I see you have deleted all references of it on this thread. Possibly because you made a complete arse of yourself, but nothing new there.
Michelin have updated their "Bib Gourmand" list:
189 Thai eateries win Michelin Guide's Bib Gourmand
There are 27 Chiangmai eateries on their list. Look forward to trying a few of them out.
You can't get near Khao Soi Kad Gorm anymore, because every time I go past it there is a queue of top-knotted youtuber wankers thronging around it.
The list:
Chiang Mai Region Bib Gourmand MICHELIN Restaurants – the MICHELIN Guide Thailand
