I don't suffer in any way, yet I absolutely disagree with dual pricing, most especially at government properties. Of course in UK this would be a criminal offence, so I am not alone in thinking it is offensive behaviour.
If my pink card gets me in at the local price then I'll go in. If they want triple or more, I just don't go in. I lose no sleep over not spending my money there. Tell me what I've missed.
Surely it is wrong for the government to inculcate in its population a sense that this kind of discrimination is appropriate?
I am not on a crusade to right the wrongs. I am not trying to pursuade others nor am I going to abandon all principles.
I guess from the developer's perspective they're insuring against foreigners of uncertain or temporary visa status doing a runner or other assorted fuckery.
I think living space and land cuts are generally smaller in SE Asia. As I've said, here in PH a condo unit with 21 to 28 sqm size is common. I've seen some foreign vloggers stay in such areas (either single guy or a young couple). For these condo buildings, it's usual to have a pool at the ground level and a rooftop area where one can chill or hold parties. Though to hold parties, one probably has to get permission from the condo management.
Here in PH, cuts of land are now generally smaller - due to increasing population. In my hometown, decades ago, cuts of land were 400 to 1,000 sqm. Now, I've seen areas in subdivisions (moobans) which are 100 to 300 sqm.
Then there are the housing developments, usually rowhouses (which are like those houses in the Monopoly game). You buy the land + house/ apartment. I've seen projects wherein the house is 20 sqm per floor/ 4*5 m (2 storey apartment), then the lot area is 40 to 60 sqm. Space is at a premium.
Something similar to this (photo from web). Usually low cost housing units.

Equally offensive, possibly more so. I have never been and this is another reason not to bother.
Russia does too. I couldn't get local price at The Hermitage. I did pay the extra there, on the basis that it was worth seeing and I'd never get a second chance. On the other hand, it still irks me.
Counterpoint: dual pricing at Govt. properties is actually more justified than private businesses because those properties are taxpayer funded and if you don't contribute to that then you should pay more.
Works on the local level too--e.g. my home town is somewhat of a tourist hotspot and last time there my sister and her kids were admitted to an attraction for free on proof of address (i.e. they pay local council rates) whereas I had to pay despite growing up there.
the fact that she was even considering the transaction indicates she may be one sandwich shy of a picnic, and as hard as it might be for you to understand, to some people 100k might be a considerable amount.
p.s. do tell us again how wealthy you are stumpy, you haven't posted any dick waving pics of your fantastic possessions for a while.
get with the programme stumpy you silly american, judging all things by their economic value, and scorning those of lower socio-economic status. cant you see that materialism and over consumption is so 20th century.
Yea that is a really shitty thing to hear Harry but not surprised and it is the reason that we are finally moving back to the UK 100% for at least a decade when my last kid goes to uni there. The racism and the violence against foreigners in Thailand really gets to me as well. Islands like Koh Tao should be nuked with all the farang apologists in situ. I also don't like the racism against what I consider to be the real Thai's either. The countrysides educational system has been kept shitty so that all it produced is whores and factory workers to build the hotels and to service the tourists. They then in turn are actually usually the ones to strike out at farang, even though their position in life has been made worse by their own 'people'. Rant over.
Anyways on a different note, better to buy a house with land and get a car then live in the big hot stink. I haven't missed living in the centre of the big stink one bit. All these condos flying about are overpriced and undersized because the Chinese don't care, they just want to get whatever they can out of China. If you really want to buy a condo, better deal is to buy an old condo and do it up.

Having bought three properties in Thailand, and erected another, my advise is... Rent.
