The FCC is a good option at happy hr as everything is 1/2 price. A pitcher of mojitos is like $7 & they make a good one. Full of tourists, but a nice view of the river. In PP you should be eating, drinking, & f*cking or you're doing it wrong. There are good French Restaurants where every entree is in single digits ! Where else are you going to find that ? Walk a couple 100m N and grab some chow at Metro or take a tuk tuk up to Armond's on 110 for a nice steak & red wine. Do lunch at the Duck. Everything is good. Wine is almost free compared to Thailand. Booze has no tax, a liter of Stoli costs around $10 retail. For sleeze - I recommend Le Cyrcee for the 3 for $60 special. The owner has those girls trained like an acrobatic troupe !

As a former member of the real FCC, I rather resent that stolen name.Originally Posted by wackyjacky
In the real FCC you will see no cash being produced (everything is on tab), and the only people there are actual members, guests signed in by actual members (who are present), or actual foreign correspondents. They asked me to help raise seed capital for the Pnomh Penh fraud in HK- I refused.
I think most people know that real FCCs or other clubs of that sort aren't open to the public.
There are however discounts available for FCC members who choose to stay there. Well, that was the case when I last visited.
Yea, them old guys have all the luck.Originally Posted by Baas Babelaas

In reply to "not bored in pp" as it doesn't seem to register there.
Stand by what I said in my post - PP sucks a bag of dicks.
Also my thread title was changed by the mods - it was originally "PP - sucks a bag of dicks"
Respect to the dead and all but S21 and the Killing Fields were 'meh'.
Pretty much all those pics you took I coulda taken too. Took a few, then enjoyed the pool and AC-room. Took a gander by the river, walk down Slag Street (by fuck were they horrible looking thing) And did go to a decent nightclub where I spent some quality time with a sweet (working?) girl. All I did was buy her drinks (she struggled to match me, so it worked out reasonable)
Perhaps I was spoilt in Malaysia - Penang, Georgetown, Lankawi - what a treat.
PP - dirty, dusty/muddy, crap traffic. Positives - decent food, cheapish hotel with pool, and, um..... that's it.
Guess I prefer different things to others on this forum. Couldn't be bothered getting into a slugfest over it.
In Bangkok now - it's crapper than ever. On par with PP (I don't do sleaze, or touristy crap or gawp at random temples and suchlike)
As it stands I won't be doing PP or BKK again. Siem Reap and Sihanoukville - yes. Malaysia - yes. Philippines - anywhere but Manila or Boracay.
Yeah - top three shit cities I've visited in Asia:
1. PP
2. Manila
3. Bangkok.
Call themselves 'developing'. I would go for 'sliding into a shit abyss'
Fire away haters!

If all you want or like is sitting in bars getting drunk all the time (like others seem to think is the cutting edge of excitement) then stay in your home country or piss about in Singapore.
I thought the traffic was fascinating - just insane.
What exactly is it that you desire from an overseas excursion?Originally Posted by Baas Babelaas

Now that they've clamped down on border uns to re-activate your visa I'm not gonna chance it with another land crossing to activate the next entry, so going to Cambo for a week instead.
Last time I went stayed on street 128 I think, in the Luxe hotel opposite the Red Fox pub, just by the river. The Naga Casino is just up the road.
Had a great time but didn't stay long enough so going back there. The casino is pretty impressive if you're into casinos. The Red Fox is a great pub, they sell good cheap beer, red label whisky for nothing and nice fat spliffs for 50c each. They have a low end guest house attached and run a low stakes poker room upstairs which is well run.
I spent the 2 days there playing cards smoking spliffs drinking whisky and eating bacon sandwhiches. Gonna go back there but might check out a few other things as well this time.
Looked into going to snooky but it looks pretty hard core and low end. And I never really saw Phom Phen properly. Plus the tuk tuk guy keeps emailing me asking when I'm coming back.
I interact with people.
On this trip I chatted to an assortment of random people - the closest I got to sleaze was spending an evening at a decent nightclub with a pretty girl. I bought her drinks (along with mine) and we chatted and danced. She didn't pester me for drinks or a barfine or money for her buffalo. Just a sweet girl.
What I was in awe of was the sheer amount of brand new Range Rovers all over PP - that aid money has to go somewhere, innit?
There was an article a while back about the rich kids of Khmer. I can't find a direct link but it's been posted here if you're interested. I think I read it in FHM some time ago.

Lang may yer lum reek...
^^ I noticed same in Vientianne & Savannakhet, although then the preferred SUV's were Toyotas (badged Lexus). Something seriously screwed up with our foreign aid system, when it inordinately goes to feed the already rich & corrupt.
Always been that way. Its not going to change now, perhaps worse now. Face it, foreign Aid is nothing more than a bribe by the givers.Originally Posted by sabang

Sounds really boring does PP.
I would think that in PP, it would be cheaper to simply sit in a bar each night, someone elses, that actually owning a bar.
I was joking but it's been a hobby of mine for the last thirty years.
Everyone needs a hobby now.
Thats true - I don't involve myself in that hobby in Thailand, but in PP, I spent a couple of hours in 104 buying a gaggle of 6 ladies, beverages, and my total bill came to $25! Unbeatable value.
