Leading water sports gear maker Cobra (Thailand) in Chonburi province shut down its operation today.

The company's security officials told 2,000 workers in the morning today that the company was already shut down.

The closure reportedly followed the request of 2,000 workers last month for bonus of Bt20,000 per worker and the wage hike of 6 per cent but the company said it could pay only Bt5,000-bonus per worker and the wage hike of 4 per cent. The decline to meet the request prompted the workers to plan to stage the work stike tomorrow.

Chonburi deputy governor Pisit Boonchaung said he already was informed of the factory's closure and is in talks with Labour Ministry to negotiate with the workers and the company.
