I have opened a business in Bangkok which is an expansion of a business from the UK and HK. Has anyone had dealings with gaining BOI approval, and if so, was it painful or a worthwhile exercise?

Can't help you with your question but was wondering what business you've opened?

At the risk of sounding flippant the answer's both.
As with anything of this nature you'll be dealing with a lot of bureaucracy - filing the umpteenth form for the umpteenth time. That being said once it's done and dusted the rewards are plenty. Wasting time at immigration will be a thing of the past, you can even go through the 'VIP' channels at the airport. And that's only for the individual, benefits and incentives for the Co. are pretty good too.
you need to ask a lawyer, they usually handle that kind of work
or maybe some organization that helps with the process, I can only imagine the nightmare process with Thai style monkey bureaucracy
Thanks for the replies.
AntRobertson, what's this about VIP channel at the airport?
It's one of the less well-known perks of BOI registration (though to be fair it's quite recent too I think).
You get to go through the reserved lanes at immigration when you're travelling. Can't quite remember exactly what they call them but the ones that the politicians etc use.
You can pay from around 6,000THB+++ for a card that will allow you to use those V.I.P. lanes.
Lost the link though unfortunately.
As a benefit to foreign investors during “Thailand Investment Year 2008-2009,” to facilitate their speedy entry through immigration formalities at Suvarnnabhumi Airport, Thailand Board of Investment, in cooperation with the National Airport Immigration Division, has opened a “fast track” express lane for foreign investors.Originally Posted by AntRobertson

It's only for a year.
Additionally, any 'investors' travelling on a business visa can contact the email address or telephone number provided in the link and use the 'express lane' service, BOI approved or not.
Politicians use the diplomatic channel. This is a completely different channel.Originally Posted by AntRobertson
