One could be a door? Also as long as the bottoms are at the same height on windows it makes a nice feature.Originally Posted by splitlid
Cat7 or how about this.

By the way...nice house you're building there DrAndy. Thanks for sharing.
What's a setup like that costing at least?
At least an arm and a leg Fabian, around USD50 per connection
That looks a lot of fun Herman, but we will stick with old fashioned cabling
our electrician is putting in the 5 points at B200 each, to the point outside
the cable company can just come and connect when we want
unfortunately, they say that there are no other users down our soi, so they want to charge B7000 for cabling; we are hoping that it will be set against our rental costs, so we will start with a credit of the B7000
up to the managers, wait and see
Strange deal, looks like they are gonna pull a pencil from you.Originally Posted by DrAndy
I've had to pay for the last 60 meters of the cable run and that was 540Baht.
Are you living 750 m away from the connection point?
so you paid B90 a metre
OK, was that in Chiang Mai or elsewhere?
bandwidth of 20-30 meg - unless you have to I would stick to LAN cablingOriginally Posted by HermantheGerman
No DrAndy, it was in Samui (Samui Cable TV) and I paid 9 baht per meter
Ok here are some more pics of the progress
They are rendering the outside, and have started the inside
The front of the house, with arches copied from a nearby wat
you can see the pool work is now in progress too
The top arch is a balcony for a guest room, the bottom one leads into the open courtyard room
This shows a little of the rendering detail, they are doing a nice job
more rendering and another view of the pool (on top) under construction
the rendering really pulls the house together, it now has a nice feel
another view of the pool
Some pics of the inside work; the Moongate. This still needs the detail edging to make it look good...could be made a little rounder too
The main bedroom, showing the two balcony doors/windows
from that bedroom, the arch into the dressing room and bathroom
some more inside pics
this is the second floor landing, showing the two big windows looking out to the courtyard
and one of the wheel windows; needs a clean but looks neat
inside the courtyard room looking out
I think this will be a cool room
a view from the soi, the poor mango has been savagely cut back so not much fruit this year
The roof has been finished and guttering put up; the neighbours should be happy
looking good,am interested in the pool on top.will you have to climb up into it?
how is it beam configuration below it?
what size is it?
Yes, the pool sits at roof level and will have a deck around it and steps leading up to it from the flat roof
the other info is in this thread, big beams and columns! the pool is about 5x2.5m
Just a quick update...the builders are on holiday
As for the house, as soon as the rendering is complete we are going to mothball the house. We will leave all the fitting out when we return later this year
....to be continued....
Looks realy nice DrAndy ! But are you sure you are not building a Hotel there
What I would be worried about is the envy from the neighbours.
....have to admitt I'am also a bit envy.
Thanks Herman, but with only three bedrooms it would be a very exclusive hotel
It looks a lot bigger than it is, especially as we have built the ceilings very high, and the building is squeezed into the space
as mentioned before, the floor is approx. 100 sq.m., and the 1st floor is mostly open for the courtyard. The roof is being used though, which adds an extra floor
Last post on this for a while
We are getting the place painted, 2 coats outside, one in
hopefully this will stop any algae growing on bare concrete until we return and assess the next step
How many coats of paint (good stuff) does bare concrete need to look good?
The painter says it should need 4 eventually, 3 inside
