Here's a selection of pictures from the past and present of a number of iconic Manchester music venues were some of the greatest musicians to have ever waxed lyrical on the planet have performed .
The trip down memory lane was inspired by a typically wet rainy afternoon in the city centre with my youngest child who expressed an interest in the contrast between old and new buildings in our city and the varied music tastes and fashions whilst on our walkabout.


The infamous Berlin club of the Eighties, home to Mods, Skins, Rockabillys, Scooterboys.

The Asian lady in the new establishment was very interested in the history of the building.



Next up is the world famous Hacienda, the birthplace of Rave music and Madchester..

All expensive apartments nowadays.


Next up the lesser known Old Steam Brewery cellar club.

It had the atmosphere of a 1960s celler club but is now a Church of the Latter Day Saints, still a venue of worship.


Onwards to an outstanding live act venue called the International 1

I witnessed the likes of John Lee Hooker, James Brown, Curtis Mayfield just to name a couple of legendary artists who played here, sadly a Turkish supermarket nowadays.


Next up is this den of debauchery, Discotech Royals..

Home to the rich and famous back in the nineties and three floors of Darren and Karen's getting of with each other while listening to the latest Stock Atkinson and Watermen signings.
Cool building but abandoned now.


One of my favourites from my teenage years was this gem, Papas.
I knew the owner well back in the day and put a few events on here. Sadly derelict now.

What happened to Affleck's?

Afflecks is still standing and in new ownership, apparently the shop owners bought the owner out because the building wasn't bring repaired.
Now it's a consortium for the weird, wacky and wonderful.
