I am currently reading an English translation of "Four Reigns" by Kukrit Pramoj.
Very interesting.
About the life of Phloi and her family, inside and out of the palace walls. King Rama V through to King Rama VIII.

I have just finished reading this...
...which was a really good read, and now I am mostly reading the follow up to it...
...which is written 25-30 odd years after his first solo around the world motorcycle journey, in 2002. The author retraces his route and it's interesting to read him describe the changes in the people, politics, development, tourism etc.
Gives me itchy feet!
Oh, and he started this trip at age 69 and did it unsupported by an entourage, unlike the big girls blouses Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman.
Just finished 'The Killer Angels' by Michael Shaara. One of a great series on the Civil War (American). It was made into a movie, Gettysburg, which has some good actors in it. I'm getting ready to watch that today.
Are you watching the 1993 movie Davis ?
There's also a documentary made this year

^The 1993. Looks like the kind of movie that justifies having paid for that big screen TV. Will look for your recommendation as well. Thanks.
I have mostly been drinking good wine and buying tea caddies on ebay
not much reading except my daughter has just had a book published
so I had to read that
Any good, fiction or nonfiction?Originally Posted by DrAndy

It's both a history of, and 'expose' on Coke. Pretty interesting, although in recent times most of the dirt clings to the various CC bottling subsidiaries rather than the CC Corporation. Downloaded it via Torrent, it's an easy read.
Popped into the library on the way home yesterday to grab a book for the week ,, I asked the librarian if she had any reccomendations for a quick read as I have a busy schedule ahead of me this week . She came up with a old tatty book called " The Advantages of Being a Northener " by some chap called Ivor Nohope WTF ?? anyways I have an open mind about these things so I grabbed it and went to check it out ,, she said" its ok love there,s no need to bring that one back "
Ok back home now nice cup of coffee + chocolate digestive,s here we go ,,,, now the forward is a handwritten almost totally illegable piece by someone called ,, cant quite make it out Spazza ,,, or is it Grazza ?? anyways he mentions something about the Marriot hotel + raw liver ??? then drones on about the " Fog on the Tyne is aaall mine oh mine " oh well this is gonna be a steep learning curve
Now into the book Chapter 1 to 10 empty pages with ?? marks on em ,,,,,,,glad I never bought it
!
Anyway to the epilogue now and a rather sad piece written by the late Sir Bobby Robson ,, he mentions about how much he had really enjoyed his life living down south but had to return oooooop north to see his final years out .
Oh well I,m still non the wiser ,, on the plus side its recycling day tommorow and the dust cart will transport off to its rightfull place ,, the incinerator

just came across catch 22 by j.heller
which was at the time of release supposed to be 'funny'
half way through it now and frankly
find it a bit of a bore.
and about to give up on it.
Funny? Well, funny as in "ha ha" no. "Funny" as in "strange", maybe. Its a satirical work.
Have a look here, it may help you appreciate it a bit more:

Yossarian has fallen in love with General Dreedle's nurse.
Just finished 'Gods and Generals', Jeff Shaara's final volume on the US Civil War, which follows 'The Killer Angels" on which I reported above. Now moving on to 'No Less Than Victory', Jeff Shaara's third and final volume in his WWII trilogy. Then, on to the two final Shaara books on the US Revolution. That will conclude everything written to date by Jeff and his father, both fabulous military historians with the gift of bring history alive.
