Dancing queen was on Coundown for ages, a year at least, number one for months.
The boy's did most if not all of the songwriting.
The girls just sang well, gyrated their booties and looked absolutely sensational.

For me, it's Ray Davies of The Kinks. Some perfect pop / rock songs, witty lyrics, and the quintessential English band of the times.

Good call mate. I like this version and the man is still going strong.

Ray Davies spent a lot of time in our household during the late 60's early 70's.

Tom Paxton was mentioned. A good man, he wrote a song about one of my favourite songwriters, who he was good friends with in those early days in Greenwich village. A topical singer as he liked to call himself. A guy callled Phil Ochs. His songs, 36 years after his death, still have substance.

Here's a Phil Ochs track put in a more contemporary setting.

Supertramp - I wonder how many have heard them (especially the teens and those in their 20s). Outstanding musicians and composers

Song Writer ?, for me Leonard Cohen as he writes beautiful poems that stand alone, but added to that he can perform them with awsome presence - over 50 yrs. and i cannot think of too many artists 'borrowing' his that have failed.
