Dead backup Hardisk, file recovery any ?

The backup hard disk gave up, and no mirror of this one...

I have the 2008 files but i'd like to recover many files from 2000 to 2008 mostly only present on this single back up hard disk...

Going to pantip Plaza came up first, but some techies told me that not many over there do a proper job.

I was told as well that a hard drive, depending what fault is present can scratch itself at each trial of data recovery, so more datas might be lost for ever eventually...

There is a company asking for 2'500 thb for looking at the disk, and if the problem is to serious they send the disk to the US for 30 K Thb approx. to recover content.

Seagate is manufacturing those boxes and they are in Thailand, evntually knocking at their door migth do the recovery ?

Any advice or knowledge of a proper place for such problem solving ?

    TIA

Avoid Somchai's 2500 baht recovery, the chance is that he is making it worse so it can't be recovered by a pro.

Heres a tip that might work, stick only your old hd disk in the pc, boot up using a linux cd and choose to run from cd, connect an external drive to the pc, transfer over all files you can find to your external.

I got a contact but i am not sure if they can be trusted without being there looking what they do...

I just want my files back 2500 thb is cheap to recover this compared to the amount of work lost there...

The link I gave you mentions a company in Singapore Hard disk data recovery | data recovery services | recover lost data

I don't have any experience with them but from what I can see on their webpage they are proffesionals.

^^ I am close to Bangkok, on the Petchkasem road toward Nakhon Pathom...

It is a Hitachi Deskstar Model HDT725032VLAT80 ATA / IDE of 320 GB

No spin up i think, seems very quiet...

Probably give it to the suggested IT from Mediaman, thanks...

Your best bet at this point appears to be to bite the bullet, and to pay for a professional data recovery service -- it is expensive, but it will usually be able to get most if not all of your data back.

Going forward, I suggest you budget replacing any of your critical hard drives every 2-3 years - hard drives, even when not in operation, will fail eventually (the upper lifespan being 3-5 years), and with them, your data and memories.

Considering that hard drive capacity goes up, with prices dropping, budgeting $200-$300 every 2-3 years (2 years, better than 3) is the best insurance. Buy a new external drive by a reputable vendor, transfer the data from the old drive to the new one, keep the old drive for another 6 months (or longer, it can't hurt to keep it lying around). Rinse and repeat after 24-36 months.

Label your backup drives, both by their content, as well as the date when they went into operation, and (more importantly) the date a replacement is suggested.

You won't have any more problems.

I am on Chang wattana - pak kret road

not sure what your transport options are ( rama 4 bridge is open now ) , but if you want to bring it to my place I can have a look at it for you and tell you how bad it is .

PM me if you want and I will give you a phone number
If you torture data for enough time , you can get it to say what you want.

That is one of the better errors because it is usually a circuit board error with no damage to the internal platters.

Here the answer of the specialist about the hard drive :

Unfortunately the disk head on your drive has crashed and caused physical damage to the disk platter. In this case we're not able to recover any data at all.

Bloody bad news this is !

    I do wonder about this

maybe not all the data can be recovered , but unless the head has completely destroyed itself there still should be recoverable data on your disk.

now that the expert has pronounced it unrecoverable , I am still prepared to have alook for you if it is quite important
