    Diagnostic / troubleshooting help needed.

My Asus desktop PC is making a dreadful clunking sound like banging empty pipes down below on a boat every few hours.

No pop ups and I checked with Lavalys Everest for errors in sensors but nothing.

I'm pretty clueless with stuff like this , so would appreciate some help on what to do.

Windows XP pro SP2 with FireFox .

The only sympton of performance degradation is Firefox.exe in Task Manager is reaching enormous levels in virtual memory > 700,000.

Don't know where to look, or what to look for.

Sorry for such a boring thread, might make a century if CMn, Keda and Benbaa chip in with some help

    What he said, sort off^.

Had same same a while back. Took pc to shop, he opened it up and cleaned out the fans. A lot of dust and stuff had built op on and around the fans, Once cleaned no noise.
Next time I'll do it myself.

The casing fans are normally rubbish & once the bearings get a little worn, the dust build-up can throw them out of balance. Make an almighty sound.

Really, I was thinking something technical.

Ok thanks, I'll get the wife onto it whilst I'm golfing tomorrow.

Fans usually make a screeching noise and won't use up VM.
I would back everything up and expect a HD problem
