    Don't forget your anti-virus

At some point in the last month i have managed to turn of my anti-virus. Not sure when, but Ihaven't reset my compuer for more than four weeks now so it's been a fair old time.

Today I have been getting a popup - very professional looking, asking for my username and password - proxy.reknet.ca - I spotted that it wasfunny straight away.

No having to work out what bit of spyware of whatever has found it's way onto my pc.

so don't forget to tun your antivirus on.

I don't think that my anti-virus has actually found a virus on my PC in the last 4 or 5 years.

This coincides with the date that the kids got their own PC and were banned from using mine.

    Interesting turn of events.

It was a link on the lunarwars forum that I setup for my alliance.

One of the members who was let in put it in his signature. Whenever this tried to load it popped up this box wanting details.

    A little bit suspicious.

HOwever..............I did some digging, the site it links to, is hosting one of our rival alliances forum, du du duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh

Even more, this member who has been with us from early on used to be a member of the rival alliance.

Its fucking Nerd Lunar Espionage. I'm laying traps to catch him out.

I run free Antivir and spybot on the home computer, Last week I get a e mail from E bay telling me my computer is infected with mal ware and to go to this site to clean it, I thought nah thats got to be a scam, but the next time I went into e bay there was a message there as well, still not sure if it was a scam I went to Trend Micro HouseCall - Free Online Virus and Spyware Scan - Trend Micro USA and sure enough I had one bad mal ware and removed it and told me to down load the latest windows updates
    Now all is well

I'm testing the theory that linux doesn't need AV software.

using Lynx (web browser - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

or maybe Firefox , with no-script , adblock and flashblock

another tip is probably to move to foxit pdf reader as ther is a lot of malicious pdfs out there.

You might be surprised to know what sites are most likely to give it to you. It isn't just porn. If you find sites where you see or sense grounds for jealousy and rivalry, especially if it's computer related, be careful. Where new software is offered (there are plenty of safe ones here tho), video game stuff, Windows non MSC downloads, etc. Creators nick from each other and a war ensues. Thing is they are all computer nerds and tecs. People who know just what to do with a virus. Free, no membership trorrent sites are probably #1. Having an open port in your firewall can be where the worst of them come through, like smitfreud.

You may not be aware of it, but your router has a firewall.
That's why you have to do port forwarding.

If you think so, then please turn off uPnP in your router and see what happens
