    In trouble with ".docx" files

    Hello Gurus,

I just can't open ".docx" format file sent to me by one of the customers. I would appreciate your help.

    Thanks in advance.

Not a guru - but docx is the vista/word 2007 format. Either upgrade, or get them to re-send the file in "compatible" mode (i.e. they have a choice to save it in 2003 format).

    there you go....

To open Microsoft Office Word 2007 .docx or .docm files with Microsoft Office Word 2003, Word 2002, or Word 2000, you need to install the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for 2007 Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint File Formats and any necessary Office updates. By using the Compatibility Pack for the 2007 Office system, you can open, edit some items, and save Office Word 2007 documents in previous versions of Word.

    Mach,

You don't have the right version of Microsoft office. You need Office 2007 to open this file. If you don't have it, you can download a free trial copy and open your file. Here is the link.

    http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/downloads/FX101321101033.aspx?pid=CL100570421033

Or, PM me and I'll send you my e-mail address, you send it, I'll convert it and send it back to you.

You don't need to operate it. Download it, click on the file and it opens automatically.

There is an addon for Office 2000 that will let you open 2007 files.

    Google it.

Good to know that you can just convert them. So far I told my clients they have to save it under Word2003 as they can't expect me to upgrade just because they have got a new computer.

Indeed, easy done. Wish I knew hat earlier.

Just to note for those looking for the converter, it is not at the download page for your office version:
Download details: Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats
