How much space do you need?

I am lucky to now live in a detached house in a mid size garden just about enough to keep under control.

On annual visits to the large cities of Europe and Asia the lack of space always seems a very high price to pay.

I live in 120 sq.m. apartment in thailand, it is more than enough space.

I live in a six-bedroom, six and a half bathroom house. Two living rooms, dining room, gym, double kitchen for the chef wife, driver's room, two kids' rooms, guest bedroom, office, storage room, two-car garage, and maids' room. Forgot huge master bedroom with double dressing rooms.

I like to stretch.

In keeping with the title, No, I don't need it. But I want it, and like it, and could afford to build it. So, there it is. I've lived in concrete block one bedroom apartments, trailers, army barracks, a room in a Thai squatter area with a girl, a hovel in Cambodia, etc. This is better.

I like space. I hate feeling cramped. At the moment I have enough space but I would be happy with more. I guess I'm a space cowboy.

Having recently been house hunting in UK and here, it does depend on occupancy.
In the UK I needed at least 2 good sized bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
Even on Samui a decent sized bungalow can be had for less than half the cost in UK. Don't need much outdoor space but a verandah/patio is essential for me. The main thing is to have at least 2 seperate rooms so adults can do their own thing when necessary.
Nearly moved to smaller place but it was also very dark due to a lack of natural light.
Happy where we are. Probably a bit bigger than we need but no complaints.

space is no big deal, I'd rather have a small quiet place , than a big one with noisy neighbours, or by a busy road, airport, cockerals, immigrants etc

I don’t necessarily need it but,…

We have a little bit of space in the states (to make sure a bit of Florida is preserved) and enjoy it. When guests visit and want to go see the property alone, we’ll make sure they have a working phone (a vehicle or ATV that is full of fuel) and tell them to remember which pasture (they are numbered) they last entered so when they call us to tell us they are lost we can come to get them.

Coming up to my twentieth anniversary in a thirty square meter studio (last three with my Thai wife who gets "in line" for her U.S. citizenship exam this week). Always describe it as the in-law attaced to the rear cottage and by reason of seniority I have inherited the back garden. Navy service and cruising on sailboats taught me to live small and organized.

Walking distance to the subway (that for fifteen years deposited me two blocks from my workplace). Many long term friends as neighbors whom I will miss when we move to my wife's home near Nang Rong, Buriram next year. By virtue of rent control my rent has escalated from $473 to $634 over my tenancy; used my low rent to buy and then sell a rental house I could live in during retirement but then I met my wife to be and plans changed.

I knew a guy who lived in his sisters shed for two years while he sent money back to his hooker to have their house built in darkest Issan, the poorly chap never saw a single night in the house she dumped his dumb ass as soon as it was completed

Four rai does me fine in Thailand wih about 300 sq meters of house to live in. Like others here, I like to stretch.
