Thai Police Seize 100 Arms-Like Machines Ahead Of Anti-Government Rally
BANGKOK, March 13 (Bernama) -- Thai police seized some machines which could be used as firearms, a security agency spokesman said Saturday.
Thai police region 1 raided an auto parts company in Wang Noi County, central province of Ayutthaya and seized some 100 cast iron machines which can be used as M 79 grenade launcher, the Thai News Agency quoted Colonel Sansern Kaewkamnerd, spokesman for the peace-keeping center, as saying.
Wang Noi is a main entrance into Bangkok from the north and northeast region, where several hundred of army and police officers have set up a checkpoint from Thursday to ensure that no weapons will be taken into the capital.
As of Saturday noon, the red-shirted protestors, led by the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD), from other provinces have passed Wang Noi, heading to the capital, the National News Bureau of Thailand said.
The UDD is planning to hold a major rally in Bangkok on Sunday to pressure the government to step down and hold a new election.
