Yum pla dook foo is one of our favorites. Such an unusual dish. Really nothing like it. I've watched them fry up the pla dook and I still don't know how it ends up so sponge-like.

I think the crispy pak boong salad is a relatively new culinary invention. There's a place in Korat that does a great job with it: huge big pak boong leaves. I keep wondering where they get them as the think Chinese variety is more popular now.

Another place that does a good job with this dish is Rot Sabiang, the train-themed restaurant that is across from the Ambassador (Soi 11) in Bangkok.

If its the one with yellow rice, than it is "kaow mohk gai"

If it is a curry dish with sauce it may be "keng gahlee gai" which is very rarely on the bone but sometimes is and comes with potatoes.

The only other one I can think of is Kaow soi, but that is a curry soup and is from chiang mai.

It could also be "Khao Ob Gai" if it has yellow rice.
It tastes the same as "Chicken Biriyani" and hard to find.

I thought they were pretty much the same thing, just depended on where the person serving it was from, not saying thats the case but i thought it was.

The ones I have had the "kaow mohk gai" was cumin flavoured rice and a fried chicken leg in batter cooked separately.

The "Khao Ob Gai" was chicken and rice cooked together (I presume in an oven "ob") and had a more indian flavour.

Thais don't deserve potatoes, they have no idea how to utilize them.

What is you favorite Thai meal?

For me it's Gai Yen, Kow Now, and Som Tom-pet mak (BBQ chicken, sticky rice, and spicy Papaya salad) - this is my all time favorite. Of course, with the dipping sauces included.

    What about you?

Best are from a Mom and Pop seafront place near Rawai.
May do a thread on how to find it - gotta practice inserting pics first !

With a few exceptions Thai food is crap my kids would rather eat the worst of Farang food than the best of Thai.

BUT Laotian food is great, my favorite meal as below.
