The only farang

i love to get of the beaten track or visit places where not overrun with western tourists, so after leaving Nong Khai city, i went to pay a visit to Beung Kan to look at Wat Phu Tok.

Accessed vis a network of rickety staircases built in, on and around a giant sandstone outcrop, the view from above is fantastic

After that i visited another little visited town, That Phanom to have a look at the impressive Wat Phra That Phanom. its 53 metres high and a 5 tiered 16kg gold umbrella sits ontop

after that, i chipped to Laos and beyond

That looks great, you do get around a bit don't you. Not sure I would trust that wooden walkway though.

there's nowt wrong with the walkway. its not going anywhere for a good few years yet, unless it gets overrun with termites that is. I would feel safer on here than the concrete walkway thats falling in dis-repair in Spain which someone posted a video clip of on here

Exactly the feeling I get, even just looking at it. That walkway looks like it is held up with air.

Beung Kan is a dusty little town on the edge of the Mekong river on route 212, between Nong Khai and Nakhon Phanom

bridge is fine. holes carved into rock at an angle for the braces and holes carved into the rock to take the platfrom.
Now if you want to see a hand made bridge, that is made from branches, hangs over what i would call a sewage canal and bent and creaked with my 11 stone weight, plus a 25kg rucksack, to put it bluntly, i was shitting myself [excuse the pun]

This is in Mae Sod. maybe now, after 2 years there is a road ontop of the concrete pillars, but before it was the only way to Kame Guest House which is the after Green Guest House on the other side of the stench

Great pics.
That Phanom looks nice, after being repainted and guilded. I was there a few back for the temple fair that takes place in Feb. It was covered in bamboo scaffolding.

I am shitting myself just thinking about walking along that walkway. It may be sound but I would still be VERY nervous edging my way along that

Those are some great pics, indeed. There had to be a few more farangs out there though, I bet you they are hiding under that walkway!
