Me and Mrs are coming back to the Land Of Smiles at the end of March,and whilst we are at home will be looking at having the land Back filled,ready for the futre construction of our house.we are looking to have 2 Rai Back filled to a depth of 1.5 Meters.What would be a reasonable price to pay for the Plant hire,and Haulage of the soil?.We have had one qoute of 150.000Baht for the Contract,Do you think this is reasonable?.We don,t have to buy the soil as My Mother-in law has said that we can take the soil from her land,and in return she will end up with quite a good sized lake

The quote seems excessive to me. 200 to 220 baht for a truckload of soil is the norm around Buriram, but seeing as you have the soil available for free, let's say 150 bhat. 2 rai is almost a full size football pitch at 1600 square meters per rai (40 by 40m = 1 rai) so you're panning to fill a huge area. I had a 3 bedroom bungalow built here last year on a 1 rai plot and raised the land with 30 truckloads to cover the house buid only. Have since raised more of the plot with a further 40 truckloads and would estimate half a rai has been raised with those 70 trucks..... therefore you should be looking in the region of 300 truckloads to fill 2 rai. Say 400 so as not to under estimate, 400 x 150 baht = 60,000 baht.

The price seems reasonable to me, you are about to move 4800 cubic metres of soil which is around 1000 truckloads!!

I think we probably paid a total of B150,000 for 2.5 rai in Central Thailand.

The main problem is the quality of fill. If it ain't good send it back. Believe me this is one aspect of building that I was hands on fulltime from daylight to dark.

Hi Smithson, when I said Buriram I meant 'Province of', and it's well out of town where soil/dirt/earth is in abundance and there's plenty of teams to choose from. Is your quote near a town and bit urbanised? Just last week I bought 6 truckloads to make a play area for the boys out back and paid 210 baht per dump...........included delivery and levelling with a tractor.

Thanks for the replies all,I thought that it did not seem to bad,when you consider the amount of soil that we are going to have moved.Btw how many cubic meters does a truck carry?,then I can do the Maths and work price per truck load.

Dry uncompacted soil weighs between 1000 and 1200 kg per cubic meter.

So - a 10 tonne capacity truck will haul about 10 cu meters plus a bit !

Small 6-wheel truck 3 cubic meters. Bigger 10-wheeler , 6 cubic meter.
They can prolly overload them quite a bit if they aren't travelling on public roads..

It will take some time to fill so many trucks so you have to take into account
the time for the digger who usually charge by hour.

I think you have got a good price.
