What do you think is happening here?

I drove home last night, and discovered that my street has been blocked, so this morning at 6.00am went for a bit of a look at what was going on....

this is the park at the end/start of my complex...

and blocked off here too, so the entire park area has been blocked off


first clue - some taps have been put in

aah, 2nd clue, they are setting up some prayer rugs...


and there is about a dozen of these big ass speakers



the childrens sandpit has been covered with plastic tarp

quite a lot of people are here praying now.

The chanting has stopped, the music is back on.

The people have left, I wonder what is going to happen next?

oh well, that was a big anti-climax. turns out they blocked off teh park for the prayers only, I was thinking that they were going to sacrifice the animals here. must have been elsewhere.

All over indo, people have been buying up cows and goats, storing them all over the roadside and everywhere else.

Eid al-Adha (Arabic: عيد الأضحى ‘Īd ul-’Aḍḥā) or the Festival of Sacrifice (Turkish: Kurban Bayramı) is a religious festival celebrated by Muslims and Druze worldwide in commemoration of the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. The devil tempted Ibrahim by saying he should disobey God and spare his son. As Ibrahim was about to sacrifice his son, God intervened and instead provided a lamb as the sacrifice. This is why today all over the world Muslims who have the means to, sacrifice an animal (usually a goat or a sheep), as a reminder of Ibrahim's obedience to God. The meat is then shared out with family, friends (Muslims or non-Muslims), as well as the poor members of the community.

Hari Raya Haj is on . . . public holiday tomorrow here as well. No speakers in our area . . . actually almost no Muslims in our area.

I has been quite some time since the residing years. But have been down there since {before the fires}. I am of this romantic notion that places like Sumatra are very very slow to change or refuse to. Hey willy, still have those brothel complexes out in the middle of the deep jungle?

posh bastard ? hardly.

everyone has maids and drivers here. aint expensive and makes life easier, plus gives them a decent job. (as opposed to no job or begging etc)

^ Plus, as a foreigner, you really wouldn't want to drive in Jakarta . . . roadblocks, total diregard for rules (worse than in Thailand), streets change their one-way direction without notice etc . . .

Huge disregard for rules and personal safety.

Oh I do drive on my drivers' days off. I ended up having a bit of an arguement, was turning left off a main road and accidently drove into a ITC shopping mall rather than the road I wanted.

Was forced to continue in collect a ticket from a toll booth before I could turn around and get back out, the git at the toll booth then wanted 2000 rupaih, after a short but polite arguement I told him to shove it and drove off, he fookn chased my car down the street which was a bit full of traffic anyway and stood in front of my car blocking it until I paid the equivalent of 15 cents US for the privelege of driving into the shopping mall entrance and exit.....

Grrrr.

Whose rules....??
