    Breaking Bad

Bryan Cranston plays a high school chemistry teacher who is going through a mid-life crisis. When it's discovered that he has lung cancer, he turns his talents to crime and, with the help of a former student of his, starts his own meth lab, where he makes some of the purest crystals the drug community has ever seen.

This show.....is flawless. One of the best I've ever seen. The pacing here is great - in one scene he'll be cooking up some crystal meth in the back of a trailer out in the desert, and in the next he'll be attending a PTA meeting. All the characters compliment each other quite well, and the acting is top-notch, especially from Cranston. Unfortunately there are only 7 episodes in the first season because of the writer's strike, but season 2 is coming soon. Highly recommended.

    True Blood (2008)

It's been two years since vampires have "come out of the coffin", and it's been decided that they have the same rights as humans. In order to stay alive, they drink something called "True Blood", which is a drink (developed by the Japanese) that is made of synthetic blood. They don't have to kill humans in order to survive anymore (although there are rogues who still do). As a result of all of this, vampires have become a source of both fascination and fear among the community.

Enter Sookie Stackhouse, a waitress in a small town in Louisiana. She can read people's minds, and, as a result, she has trouble dating. She starts seeing a vampire named Bill, and discovers that she can't read the mind of a vampire.

This is a great new show from Alan Ball I found to be very creative and just cool to watch. There are lots of subplots here, among them people who get off on having sex with vampires (called "fang bangers"") and like to show off their bite marks as proof. There are mysterious murders that keep occurring, and a drug called "V" (vampire blood) that humans take to get the ultimate high. Great stuff - recommended. The first season is nearly finished.

I've been watching a few Thai movies recently and really enjoyed Tom Yum Goong. Yes, I know I'm probably the last person in Thailand to have seen it, but better late than never.

Sounds good - I'll give that a try.

I'm watching Ross Kemp in Afganistan at the moment. Puts you right in the middle of some ferocious battles, excellent entertainment.

many thanks to durianfan for this recommendation.

have watched the first 6 episodes so far and plan to watch the rest of the series today.

    thoroughly enjoyable series.

just realised that the lead actress is Anna Paquin that won the Oscar for 'the piano' when she was very young.
