I'm back in my town now so I am a bit limited as to where I can go shopping.

Maybe a trip to IT city is in order

    Cheers GoW.

USB 2.0 is what you should go for MrsQ, you will probably regret it later if you buy an old standard hub.
And make sure it is powered from an external power supply since many computer USB ports only can supply limited power to USB devices.

I only have USB 1.0 on my laptop so a 2.0 isn't going to hack it.

It will still work, but at 1.0 speed.

You might have a hard time finding a 1.0 only hub now.

Mrs Q wants a USB hub, not a LAN hub.

I bought a hub for 4 extensions a couple of weeks ago for 300baht, they had some at 600 though, I assume I got version 1, don't really make much differance to me how fast it is though as I have so many windows open all the time.

how many windows open ? irrelavant for USB. However you will notice the difference when you will need to download or copy your porn stash to your external drive

Isn't that the normal state of affairs? I rarely wait for my USB hub to finish it's shtick before going one with my own.

I have no free USB ports on my lap top - two hard drives and optical mouse use them all up. So I unplug the mouse and plug in a 4 port hub when I need more. I always have the two drives connected directly to the PC - they don't seem to like going through hubs.

I just used my un-powered USB 1.0 4 port hub (in the background) to download from my camera. It's quick enough for that sort of job. I think it was about 150-200 baht. But it doesn't do USB 2.0.

The powered 4-port hub (USB 2.0 - in the foreground) I use with the web cam and other stuff. I just found the box for it - it was 890 baht!!!

    That is what I want.

I did look into PCMAI USB 2.0 cards but the reviews of them basically said that only a few worked properly.

Why has now one ever really made Firewire a feasible option? So bloody expensive
