| Gov. Palin is in most ways a prototype Republican. If she is to be effective anywhere it will be in those, mainly western states, the Republicans must win as they have in the past. Many of these states are leaning toward the Dems. As a staunch outdoors person she may appeal to these states. She also gives McCain a VP who appeals to the fundamentalist christian voters. Votes he needs to win and to unite the GOP party.
IMO she will have little effect on bringing disgruntled Hillary supporters to the Republican side.
She will be protected from her lack of foriegn policy experience by carefully keeping her focused on "change" in Washington.
She is an unknown in the eyes of the majority of US voters. The campaign is going to have to have to spend a lot of time in the short time it has left to give her the exposure needed to prove a positive to the GOP hopes.
Time will tell but I think John really took a big gamble here.
