5000 baht will get you a decent phone.

2000 will get a decent phone that's 3000 cheaper than Begbie's.![]()
I manage to lose or destroy cell phones pretty often, I've been in los for about 9 months and I think I'm on my 8th phone. I always buy a nokia 2630 for about 2500b. Its a reliable phone from my experience but nice and compact with a decent amount of features.
also available in black![]()
^What the hell do you do? Fry them?I've been in los for about 9 months and I think I'm on my 8th phone![]()
May as well. It seems that every time I'm in a taxi after a few drinks I tend to set it down on the seat beside me. I've watched 3 drive away despite my chasing after them. I've dropped and killed 2 of them. There is a few I don't know the fate of.
^I'd stick to landlines and cooking mate!![]()
I've got some kind of cell phone curse against me.

I'm the same with watches. Now I just use my mobile.Originally Posted by Timber

Get yourself a cheap Nokia for 900 baht.

100% better to buy in thailand, not all US phones will work in Thailand
What ever you do, just don't post a thread about poor people and mobile phones.
Especially if you buy a camera phone and refuse to use it.![]()

A US phone still have those retractable aerials right, Buy a Thai phone. they are cheap enough anywhere and can sell when you leave Thai in 6 months.
How do they work, I mean something about buying a card. Then when its used up, just get another? Is this the way that works. Thanks...
oh, you are a one!
Buy a phone, get a SIM card, prob from the same store
top it up with cash when it runs out, then you keep the same number
I know in the States things are very complicated with phones (they wanted me to pay $40 for a SIM card and no free calls included), but in Thailand it is very cheap
I have reported your post

...and they get you coming and going, so to speak. Calls and SMS are charged when they are made and received. Seems wholly unfair but no one's ever said boo about it so the telcos pretend like there is no other way of doing business.Originally Posted by DrAndy
^I agree the cellular phone market in the US is a racket. They want you to sign up for annual contracts and then nickel and dime you to fucking death. Reception isn't any better than Thailand and it's double the price.
But the OP asked about cell phones.
I came to Thailand from Los Angeles more than two years ago with a Motorola flip phone I received free (with one year subscription to a provider) in 2005. It's a cheap model with few games, no camera and minimal accessories. Just how I like it.
I still have it and it still works fine.
If you find a phone in the US that you really like, buy it. But make sure you unlock it before traveling to Thailand. When you get here, buy a new SIM and top it up with as much money as you'll use. The fees are non-existent and the calls are cheap.
Are you still watching Starsky and Hutch reruns?A US phone still have those retractable aerials right,

Or get it unblocked in MBK for a few peanuts.Originally Posted by Texpat

I called Motorola, in LA, and they unlocked it for free.
Jeez, that's pretty severe punishment!Originally Posted by Timber

A couple of daze ago the gf bought the Nokia 2600 classic for 2500b & it's a nice little phone. I suggest it highly.
