We weren't Just joking, anyway had a good nite out as is usual with Rigger. His new mates seemed like good guys and sure liked their drink, Mr Bean enjoyed himself rrying to sniff out potetntil matress dancers and I manged to stay up past midnight. Had a good ride although still haven't sorted why the bike is loosing power at anything above 180 kmh. Think maybe needs a new fuel pump, anyway a good relaxing ride, despite the lack of power. The Thai guys seemed to be good capable riders and weren't riding in idiot mode.

Yeh the weekend was great and we had a nice BBQ at my place in Khon kaen then we all piled into the back of a pick up and went out on the town,
dont remember to much after that till the morning where we rode to lucys bar and had few beers and a good feed and then headed over to the work shop for a few more beers and lamb chop BBQ later that night. So no much riding this weekend but we still managed to have a lot of fun

I finally gave the W650 a rest and took the KTM out for a bash. A mate came back from Singapore and gave me a "power flow" thingy. Basically it is a nice bit of billet ally which holds the air filter in place. The stock one was a big bit of plastic with wire mesh over it so this new one flows more air. That and an iridium plug and she is really flying now. Highly recommended and about $100. Now have the front end just slightly lifting under power. Perfect. The hills were a slippery affair with the rains and some parts like ice but I managed to stay on it. Great stuff.

I have finished my antibiotics as well so made up for the two weeks off the piss and got totally rat arsed at a mates place afterwards. Struggled to get the ute down the hill later that night, nearly ended up running off the road more than once with me hunched over the wheel peering out of the windscreen with one eye. Luckily it is a very quiet road.

I own a KTM 450 EXC and love it. Has some good points for ease of (home) maintenance the most important being nut and thread valve adjustment (no shims) so it is way easier to do. Also they don't suffer from valve "recession" as much as the others. They have some gear on them standard that guys who buy jap bikes tend to fit after they buy them, hydraulic clutch, pro taper bars.

Also, unless you are doing moto x buy an enduro bike, electric start, trip meter, 18" rear wheel, head and tail light, wider and taller gearing all standard. The EXC's even come with a horn and indicators and are fully road registrable. They did that mainly for the yanks and Aussies as the coppers love to pick on trail riders blatting down highways to get from trail to trail.

Check out the thumper talk forum, full of info about 4 stroke bikes. If cost is an issue, think about a two stroke as they are way easier and cheaper when it comes time to rebuild them. The guy I bought my bike off went to a 300 cc 2 stroke. Not easy to find someone good to rebuild your 4 stroke here and I will probably send my head to Australia to get that rebuilt. I've got over 100 hours on mine and still going strong although it is starting to use a bit of oil which I think is the valve stem guides. The are heavy on maintaineance, 15 hours between oil changes and valve adjustment. I work on my bike more than I ride it.

Oh, and I am totally biased towards KTM's. They look horn and David Night won the world enduro championship on one in '07. The Yamahas and Hondas are fine as well of course.

Keeping an open mind at the moment. Need something that is fun and easy to look after and not a headache on the wallet.
KTM are more costly to purchase than the Japs versions Correct?

Yeah. You get what you pay for. I've got a '96 Husky 250 2 stroke that I may sell, it's pretty cheap.

I have a yamaha yz250f here in Thailand and have had no problems with it at all.
A warning about the 4 stroke Hondas here in Thailand and in particular the CR250F.
I know of about 8 guys who have had major problems with this model in Khon Kaen alone. Most of thier problems relate to the fact that the titanium valves are very weak and sometime last as little as 20 hours use from new. its best to replace them with Kibblewhite stainless steel ones 7000baht. Other problems include snapped conrod and seized pistons.
Some of these problems could be attributed to non existing maintainance by Thai owners. I change my engine oil every fortnight with new engine oil filter fitted. I doubt any Thai does this! Also 4 strokes hate dust so air filters have to be cleaned and re-oiled every week without exception. I doubt many thais do this!
All in all the Yamaha is a better option that honda if your considering buying a four stroke.
That said, 2 strokes are the way to go if you dont like the idea of expensive repair bills and high hour maintainance programs.
You can check this website for some dirtbikes that are for sale, most of it is absolute shite though! www.mocyc.com

I paid 60k for it but it needs a water pump seal, a clutch basket and some gaskets.

The KTM takes up all my time and you won't get parts for it in Thailand. I have to go to Singapore for a visa and hope to get them there.

It's a fast bike, has FMF pipe and ran great. It's a 1996 WR 250
