Perhaps you haven't noticed but the USA still has not resumed formal diplomatic relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran for that very reason. Their government has been hijacked by fanatics.

I see 2 points noted above.
1. Raiding and embassy is bad. I agree. And...the seeds were sown according to many by the overthrow of Mossadegh (but we'll never be 100% sure). But ther is some linkage there, no doubt about it. Reza Shah was installed by the Americans. Reza Shah sold out his people, IMO.
2. Yes, the Supreme Countcil in Iran is radical: and this goes back to point number 1.
