    Car insurance circle jerk

    I bought a new Vigo in 06.
One year's insurance came with the truck, as I'm told is standard.
The insurance company name was Sampan Prakan Pai. (or something like that)
I was told the rate reduces 15% a year for 2 years if there are no claims.

First renewal last year was just over 15,000 baht.

My wife called on Friday to renew again, expecting the rate to be lower than last year.

Whoops! *$%*&! They said the old company, Sampan Prakan Pai, was bought out by a new company Nawachit, and I would be considered a new customer and revert to the beginner fee. This despite two years of claim-free driving. They said the fee is 18K. She went to see them today and they held to their guns.

    I smell bullshit.

Before I go talk to the nice insurance lady myself (I'd been sending my wife up to now) does anyone have this insurance and have you been given the same line?

I went shopping for insurance quotes when I had a two year NCB.
I went armed with the paperwork but they refused to accept it and said I had to start from scratch again.
I told them to stuff it.

I have been with AIG for many years now and have nothing but praise for them.
When I first got insured in LOS they offered to accept an NCB from the UK

If they bought the company they bought the obligations of that company. If it was a contractual obligation Then they are obligated to honor that contract.
Not sure it's worth pursuing though if they become obstinate. If, on the other hand, it was just "company policy" Policies change.

fuck it even if you go to another company and get a first time non-discounted fee Walk away from them. They are attempting to fuck you.

If this is representative of how they take care of their customers, imagine what kind of service you'd get if you made a claim.
If they're offering for you to start from scratch say thank you and take your business to another company with a better reputation and start from scratch.
It's not your job to teach them about customer service. Fuck'em! Maybe after they loose a few customers they'll get a clue....but don't hold your breath!

Just changed insurance companies for my Mitsu Triton, about the same age.

    Went for LMG cost 13965.64

Used this guy as the broker, no cheaper but could do most of it on line.

    E-InsureThailand.com

Don't know how good LMG are going to be, hope I won't have to find out.

My wife took care of it.

Got hit with another 9K road tax bill this month. That's 24K a year just to own the sumbitch -- not including diesel, oil or any other maintenance.

    Far more than in America.

Have been driving for 12 years here, and the wife over 20 and we have never heard of a road use tax.

Maybe it's not called road tax. What's the sticker in the driver's side windshield that says, in red block letters, 2551?

    2552 for next year...

Butty, you have to buy the PLB before you pay tax or annual registration, for a 2 door pickup its roughly 2,000 bt and then another 1200 for tax, for a 4 door pickup as Tex has its much higher.

I have Siam Pannit (I think it is owned by Siam commercial) and it is 15000 a year for and can even be made in 3 payments if you like. They have been good to us. Way better than Liberty which is on the "black list" in Thailand.
