Why don't the stagger their brickwork? Can't believe it hasn't been asked!

How can someone who welds all day everyday be so shit at it and why do the feel the need to grind down their welds?

You are correct. Most of the time the Thai workers do not stagger the bricks. The reasoning is fairly simple. Almost every wall will have rendered cement applied. Since none of these walls are really load bearing walls, why waste the time and effort, is the thinking.

    Ahh, that one is easy.
After a month of using sunglasses for welding they are all technically blind.

Yes they are, paper is worth about 5baht a kilo, so your garauntee is worth whatever percentage of a kilo your paper weighs in at.

That applies to most countries so therefore is not a Thai related question.

In Pattaya the bricks are cured using the sun, in Northern Thailand they are kiln fired using rice husks, ie not a lot of heat, that is why they are so small.

Simple reason, the walls are not straight because the "blind welders" are the ones who are building the walls.

As I thought, although if the walls were rendered then I wouldn't be noticing all these non-staggered walls. It's actually not much more time and effort, because the breeze blocks break so easy there's always plenty of half ones laying around.

In fact they'd actually save a tiny bit of money, because when the deliver the brings they always break a couple which they don't charge for.

I suspect they also think it looks nicer, a bit like floor tiles. The definitely grind down the welds for appearance. Weakens the joint, takes ages and makes a hell of a noise. Maybe the welders want to go deaf as well as blind?

Why aren't brick walls used more on the outside?

Why do all brick walls ever built anywhere look like shit, with big blobs of cement pasted and clayed in between the bricks?

Why don't houses ever have an attic, or basement for that matter? Seems they build a roof just to store air.

Why have they yet to notice that water flows down hill?

When will they discover that three prong outlets actually need three wires running back to the service entrance panel?

Will it ever come to them that "ground" ("earth") was named that for a reason?

When will it be revealed to them that wires come in different colors for reasons other than design choices?

Bricks are good absorbers of heat, so you'd need good insulation or the house would get very hot (I think)

Again, probably because they get very hot.

Why would a house need a basement? if you needed more room it would be cheaper and easier to just buy a bit more land, well in Thailand anyway, attics get too hot and insulation is a relatively new thing in Thailand, also what would you use the attic for?

I doubt you would get a work permit for any of those occupations in Thailand.

Where does all my poo and pee go? I have a suspicion that the two little lids set in the concrete outside the kitchen door has something to do with the answer, but I don't know exactly what.

As long as it's going somewhere, you don't need to know. However, if it stops going somewhere....
