Thread: Exiting Thailand - UK or Thailand passport ?

I would have said renew both Thai and UK Passports, problem solved. last month immigration at LOS wanted to see ILR in my Wifes passport when leaving LOS luckily she had all three passports, have been told since she could have shown the Brit Passport.

Yep: exit on her Thai passport then enter uk on her uk passport...

^ that means applying for a Schengen visa then ?

Sorry to be dumb about this, but if she shoes up with a ticket for a European country without appropiate visa (in her Thai passport ) will they let her on the plane, or does she just show her UK passport which nullifies the visa requirement?

I though holders of valid UK passports could go into any ec country without a visa?

Enter / leave Europe on a European passport (Yes Brits are europeans)

Enter / leave Thailand on a Thai passport

Easy really. Visas never required.

Just show the UK passport to the airline at check in to show that entry to Europe is no problem.

We had fun once, we were leaving the UK just after the July bombings in 2005.

Security at LHR was very strong. In the queue we looked at my youngest sons UK passport and realised it was out of date. Quickly pulled out his Thai passport (we were two from the fron when we noticed) and handed that. They never said a word about him not having any entry into the UK in that passport.

Can, what I meant was that without a thai entry stamp into your passport you will have problems leaving thailand.....

well at least I did, was not allowed to leave the country.

One thing is for sure, she should not leave on her UK passport.

As said, she should renew her UK, get a Thai and never ever use her UK in Thailand again.

Ok if she uses her UK at airline check-in her Thai with boarding pass at Immi. then UK to board the plane and UK at EU does she use her UK/EU or Thai to ..wait a minute?? maybe better start over

I use my UK passport for entering/leaving thailand as it has all my thai visa's in it. only use my NZ PP for coming and going from nz.
have never had to show a departure stamp from thailand in my NZ PP.

Show airline UK passport to prove no visa reqiuired.
Exit Thailand on Thai pp
Land Europe with UK pp
exit Europe ditto
Enter Thailand with Thai pp

Dunno about marrying up all the exit & entry stamps tho.

At Thai Immigration at the Airport, they will only need to see her Thai Passport - very rarely does Imigration ask to see a Visa for the detsination Country or some evidence that she could enter UK, it's not their job, all they are checking is that the passenger was in Thailand legally - which a Thai Passport obviously proves.

Thai Immigration is not an issue. The airline check in is. Airlines get fined for allowing people onto flights without the correct paperwork to enter their destination.

Because the opening poster seems to be saying that she entered here on it. She has now overstayed and will be fined. the passport has expired which makes it even worse. Enetering Thailand on a Thai passport is a piece of piss so get one and do not use the UK one here again.

Yes she did enteer on a UK pp, but since she has acquired a Thai ID she hasn't bothered with visas here anymore.

When she exits on her shiny new Thai pp will Imm connect her name with her entry on the expired UKpp 6 years previously?

The name on her UK pp is / will be different to the name on her Thai pp / ID.

If she does as I suggested and gets a new British Passport in Thailand before she leaves she HAS the correct paperwork to enter UK

that's how I'd do it anyway.

She will NOT be fined. She leaves Thailand on her Thai Passport - there is no connection to her previous entry (6 years ago) when she used her British Passport.

You don't get stamps in Europe, so the Thai stamps will match up.
