    Anglo-Isaan fusion food

    Just eatne this and thought it was tasty and so migth as well share.

    Get some laab - I prefer chicken or plaa dup. Forget the sticky rice. Get two slices of bread, spread some cream cheese in them, and put laab all over the top. Put on top slice and hey presto- cream cheese and laab sarnies.

    V. tasty.

    I love chicken laab!

    Another variation, impressive for kids and adults you are trying impress:

    1. Boil or foil+bake some potatoes; the bigger kind, not the small round gay ones;

    2. Once cooked, cut the potatoes in half lengthwise, so that you have two nice long and wide halves;

    3. Scoop out about half the innards from each half;

    4. fill each cavity with laab; garnish with some chopped cilantro (or not).

    My younger one likes this cause it is fun for him to eat; me elder one likes it cause the potato counteracts some of the 'heat' from the laab.

    The innards that were scooped out can be mixed with some laab or laab 'juice', shaped into patties, and quickly pan-fried as cutlets; but we typically just eat the innards as-is.

    Thanks for sharing; will see if the kids want a laab sandwich in their school lunch (might be a bit stinky though)

    I'm one step ahead of you. Posted this several months back. It's my Issan-Anglo fusion recipe. A big hit with the locals.

    Pathetic as it may seem, I occasionally dream about laab.

    There is a waitress at a Thai restaurant I visit monthly. She likes me, I like her, she knows I like her, I know she likes me. She has met my kids, she likes them, they like her. But, she is married, so I have limited our interaction to staring into each other's eyes (hers are like placid lakes swirling after a thunderstorm). When she hands me the bill, our fingers brush; the reaction is electric; my legs go numb, and her nipples stick out. She always stands close to me, and we savor each other's scent.

    Last week while dining there, she revealed that she cannot cook, and does not like laab. She could have shoved flourescent light tubes up my arse and broken them off inside, and the pain would be less than what I felt about her revelation.

    I could not bear to look at her the rest of the evening.

    The other waitress, who has been quietly observing our courtship over the past few months, came over near closing time, and started talking about food. We talked about herbs, about veggies, about regional differences, differences between Isaan laab and Cambodian laab, about turkey laab (Thanksgiving at the Zipcode house).

    She is single and cute, but oh so young for someone like me.

    And that is why I dream about laab...and her...but mostly about laab.

    I've often wondered what a deep fried grasshopper butty would be like.

    Interesting texture contrast. Add pepper to taste.

    What's the age difference, and why do you have such a hang-up about it?

    ^ I am 48, and really not suited anymore to dealing with immature or high-maintenance women.
