VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT HIGHLINE 1.9 TDi AT 2003
Hi TD members
Does anybody have knowledge about the above mentioned car, if so then I would like to hear any comments.
Thanx.

I drove a 2002 passat(1.9tdi) a few weeks ago, the gearbox was very loose and the electric windows didn't work, it had 180,000 miles on it and the engine sounded fine
^ Was it a manual gearbox ??

yes and a beautiful maroon colour
The 1.9tdi was not officially imported to LOS so it must be a grey import.
I assume it is for sale here.
What sort of info do you want. ?
The EGR was suspect in my opinion but overall a very good car.
^ I have my eyes on one in Bkk, it's very nice and well maintained, I'm looking for info on the mileage, power, and general service.![]()
^^Nothing specific on the Passat but a friend in Phuket had an Audi TT from VW dealer in Bangkok. Parts and service big problem as they have only one dealership in Thailand. They may have added some VW dealers now but as of 2 years ago only one on Vivapadi Rangsit in Bangkok.

"Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect,"
You gotta be brave to buy a Euro import here, Partic a grey market one. Some years ago I brought a Aust GM, ex embassy car.
Parts which are dirt cheap in Aust transormed themselves into pure gold when they crossed the Thai border.

there isn't much power, they are really slow and not like a modern diesel
The 1.9 engine came in two series, VE and PDOriginally Posted by Dalton
VE had a distributor type injection pump and came in two specs, 90 & 110 hp
You can tell the 110hp because the i in the tdi badge is red.
The PD version had unit injectors and gave more power (sorry cannot remember the figure)
0-50mph (80 km/h): 6.8 s
0-100km/h: 9.8 s
Quarter mile: 17.2 s
Kilometre: 31.3 s
Top speed: 211
Fuel consumption: 8.2/4.8/6.1 l/100km urban/extra-urban/combined
CO2 emissions: 162 g/km
^
Manual transmission

^ not bad for a diesel!
I hear what you are saying, but it's a damm nice car.Originally Posted by peterpan

Not bad at all, I've seen somewhere that there also is a 130hp 1.9TDI, could that be the other one you are talking about ??Originally Posted by Thetyim
It is a nice car.Originally Posted by Dalton
If it is in good condition and reasonably priced then 'go for it'
If you need any parts then expect them to be expensive even when you import them yourself
Is the car near you ?Originally Posted by Dalton
Is 2003 the year of manufacture or the year first registered in Thailand.?
Which country was it sourced from?
Engine & chassis #
Need a lot more info before we can find the spec
Dalts be realistic,I'm not having a shot at you but, 1.You couldn't sort out yr bike parts without help, when you needed them and 2. How many mechanics ( monkeys) around your way will be able to sort the car if (when) there is a problem.
I have just remembered that we have a member here with a VW Golf 1.9 Tdi
Maybe he will step forward and tell us his experiences![]()
Does the wife have PMS ?? You're in quite a moodeOriginally Posted by peterpan
I'm looking at what you get for your money, I need to buy a sedan in the near future, and how much car do you get for 600K ?? If you look at the Japs, the engine-room looks like it all have been throw in with a shovel, even on the new ones, the Euro cars is more complete IMO, ofcause the parts is more expensive, but the purchase price for the 2nd car is cheap, most of them was close or more than 2mill from new. I aint writing off the idea yet, you cant even get a Honda Jazz for 600K,

It is dark blue with cream interior and reg #6847 ?
Nothing against the VW Passat Dalt, but for that sort of dosh you could pick up a brand new Mitsubishi Triton, diesel. Parts easily obtainable, local service no problem, limited 5 year warranty. Surely a much more practical choice in Isaan.
^^ Have you bought it already![]()
I know, but I need a sedan..Originally Posted by sabang
