Thread: Lopburi the town of monkeys febuary 2008

Lopburi is 4.5 hours north of bangkok and has been made famous by its resident troops of monkeys that room the town creating havoc and mayhem. These incredibly smart animals are tolerated by the locals as people travel far and wide to witness there goings on and they have placed this little town firmly on the tourist map. I spent a few days here, it was non stop entertainment watching the monkeys and exploring this pleasant little town.

This is what greets one as you depart from the train.

The monkeys are considered sacred and they are presented with a banquet every day. Its madness as they gather to get there fill and rather entertaining as they have no fear of humans and just get amongst it.

I was sitting outside and this bugger just dropped of the roof for a quick drink.

No bugger told me, I never seen one working girl and the only thing sticky in my room was myself after chasing those bloody monkeys around.

This shrine in the middle of town is where the monkeys accumulate, they have claimed it as there own and there are hundreds of monkeys here at any time of the day or night.

The train track runs beside the shrine and these monkeys are always on the look out for a fee meal. This gives you an idea of how many monkeys inhabit this place and this is only a few of them.

This intersection is monkey heaven and just goes to show the intelligence of these animals. Soon as the vehicles stop the monkeys launch into a raid on any pickup they spot, take anything and I seen one scampering away with a pair of ladies shoes.Bloody laugh a minute these monkeys, as long as you keep your shoes on that is.
