I just learned that an old friend of mine, Dan Hughes (Dano here) was killed while riding his bicycle in the Hua Hin area.
That's all I know. Anyone have any more details?

Sorry to hear of your loss.
I was out mountain biking in Hua Hin this weekend with a group but I don't believe your buddy was with us.
I'd like to know some more details too...just so I can continue this hobby of mine minus the fear.
sorry to hear it.
What I've just learned is that he was on his bike waiting at an intersection when two other vehicles collided. One of them hit Dan, killing him instantly. Broken neck.
He always wore a helmut, but I guess it wouldn't have helped in such a situation.
that's awful....i cycle everyday here and sometimes i can see how shit like this can happen. always gotta be on your guardOriginally Posted by buad hai
Sorry to hear that BH. Always tough losing a mate. Luckily, I've only lost one in the last few years and that was because the wanker didn't realise how much his friends and family loved him.
Horrible sorry to hear that BH
My condolences; wouldn't Thailand be nicer if people rode bikes more, and in safety?
Dano? Did he post on the HH forum (not as Dano, though, I don't think). We do a book swap & a guy who called himself Dano (like Hawaii Five-O) came along to the first one. Nice guy, but he never came to the next one.
I haven't heard a thing; it hasn't been on the HH forum. I'm sorry to hear about your friend, in any case, & if he was the guy I met, then he was a very nice man.
He did post on the Hua Hin After Dark forum, but not often. He was more of a forum lurker. Good guy. Sometimes went by "Dano", sometimes by "Mr Huge". (His last name was Hughes, but some of his English students in Saipan pronounced that as "Huge"; hence the nick.)Originally Posted by November Rain
Can't say much. Sorry buad hai.
Sorry to hear it.
It's bad when you lose a mate.
BH: Sorry about this...is this the gent whose place you stayed in when you took all those nice pics of HH and the Palace?..
I'd like to add my condolences as well. Bad to loose a friend, lets hope he has gone to a better place.
sorry to hear it, mate
Yep, same guy.Originally Posted by klongmaster

Sorry to hear of your loss, BH.
Very sad indeed.
Sorry to hear of the loss of your friend Buad Hai.
RIP Dano............
Thanks all. Dan's been laid to rest. Ashes spread on the green of his favorite golf course hole on Saipan.
Ah so he's a long time friend from your days in Saipan...
commiserations BH...and be careful when you're out for your morning run...
Yes, we both arrived on Saipan in 1979. He started out as a teacher, got an ESL cert and taught in Japan for a while and then came back and opened "Coffee Care" which was originally a coffee bar which expanded in to one of Saipan's most popular and best dining establishments.Originally Posted by klongmaster
He sold the restaurant last year and had, more or less, retired to his condo in Cha Am.
