i do wear a little helmet when driving my little guy. may i suggest the same to you given your knowledge and concern for public health.

I've only come off abike twice in 10 yrs of riding... both in Thailand.
The first time - gravel/mud/shit on the road going around a corner, bike wheel went. THE HELMET SAVED MY LIFE.
The second, was stationary behind a stationary car on a small soi. She started to reverse over me and my bike. I jumped off just in time and begun shouting at her, as did 2 Thai guys walking by.
She smiled politely, waved, put the car back into reverse and continued to go over my bike as it lay underneath the back of her car.

apparently not.Originally Posted by The_Ghost_Of_The_Moog
he had just finished work.

Thing you got to remember is you could die falling off your bike at a stop light if you are not wearing a helmet and your head hits the ground/curb.
^Same could be said for people walking along the street, should walkers be made to wear crash helmets?

It's inconsiderate riders that don't wear helmets that eventually drive up insurance and hospital fees.
Keep on trucking boys in Thailand just don't do it in my neck of the woods.
a prayer for ruaraidh tonight please memock.
"you should have worn your helmet you inconsiderate jock cos now some thai-based farang lads have to pay more to insurance companies. also thank you god for letting him die in thailand and not here in great australia because if he did i would have to pay more insurance. amen."

WOAH there bongthom, pull in ya horses mate.
My comment was purely directed at the people who have come on this thread to brag how they do not wear helmets. I have no idea about Ruaridh and his circumstances and was just as saddened as everyone else was with his passing.
I just never understand why people would brag that they break the law and put their lives in greater danger. Surely the grief shown over at ajarn should be enough for these people to wake up and stick a lid on their head?
News is what someone, somewhere is trying to suppress - everything else is just advertising.
I don't wear a crash helmet, but I suppose that's because I drive a pick-up
You're thinking of buying one NickA? Or just looking at the pavement?
no offence taken meemers.Originally Posted by MeMock

That's probably the ugliest car I've ever seen.

I think its quite sad that you'll jump straight in and criticise the truck driver though, as if this was entirely his fault and nothing to do with not wearing a helmet or looking where you are going.
a truck that was parked there........obviously no lights or warning signs.
i presume ruaraidh was checking for traffic from his right and didn't see the truck. he wasn't wearing a helmet but there's no point in wrestling over that issue. he's gone and no internet debates will change that.
i find it a pity that you can't pass up the opportunity to be critical no matter how inappropriate.

Not being critical, being rational. Its all too easy (and unfair) to blame the truck driver alone.

don't think many people have done that.

A boy of 13/14 years, no helmet, no lights, no license or insurance was racing his bike in the rain when he lost control, went across the road and smacked into my friends truck.
He was seriously hurt and in a coma for three months or more. He came out of it. EVERYTHING was the boys fault. It didn't stop his mother and father getting the police on side and hounding my friend for intially 300,000B eventually down to 30,000. They locked him up overnight. They harassed him, they threatened him.
My friend was insured, with a license and in the right.
yup. ruaraidh may still be alive if he wore a helmet but we will never know.Originally Posted by ChiangMai noon
