Denmark started this Muslim war with the cartoons

Copenhagen police arrest six in fifth night of riots

Thu Feb 14, 9:06 PM ET

COPENHAGEN (AFP) - Six youths were arrested in Copenhagen for setting cars and dumpsters ablaze and throwing stones at police in a fifth night of riots in a predominantly immigrant area of the Danish capital, police said Friday.

"We don't know why they're rioting. I think it's because they're bored. Some people say it's because of the cartoons but that's not my opinion," Olesen said.

He was referring to the reprinting of a controversial cartoon of the Prophet Mohammed in 17 Danish newspapers on Wednesday.

The drawing, published in Denmark for the first time in 2005, sparked several months of angry protests in the Muslim world in 2006. It depicted the prophet with a turban resembling a bomb with a lit fuse.
Protests have flared up again in several Muslim countries including Kuwait and Pakistan following the reprinting. The Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas also condemned the publication.

^Yeah, I wondered about that. Who authorised the reprintings and why? Sounds like someone wants to sell newspapers.

the article refers to the expulsion of two supposed plotters of the original cartoonists murder without trial (and without charging them). seems odd that you would publicly accuse someone of murder only to deport them without charge or trial.

^^&^^^ I agree. The article doesn't really go into it but you've got to wonder at the circumstances and the decision behind reprinting them.

The riots started before the reprinting, has been 5 nights in a row now. Last night they burned a school and 11 cars in the Copenhagen area amongst the 110 fires the fire departments all over Denmark had to attend to.

What is the problem of printing and reprinting and reprinting?

    Why are they so uptight?

I remember being at an art exhibit in Chicago and they had a statue of Jesus on an upside down cross immersed in a vat of urine and not one Christian rioted or burnt anything.

I guess some people have to have a pacifier shoved in their mouth all of the time.

^Yes, that's right. They get paid monthly to disrupt and burn their home, this historic city. I hope this is a lesson for all.

What is it that makes you automatically assume that they're all on welfare: that they are Muslim, that they are immigrants, or both?

I try to avoid sweeping generalisations, much less state them as fact, if at all possible.

Nothing "PC" about it, that's merely a new just a new label to give a convienient target to an old stupidity.

I'm not entirely sure that deliberately trying to provoke other posters in an Issues topic is behaviour becoming of an Issues moderator. What do you think?

All arrested boys are between 15 and 18 year old and of immigrant heritage. With the boys running around without control and the girls locked in they have nothing else to do than to burn, rape and pillage.

The reason for the start of the riots is probably, police statement, the increased police attendance at the known drug pusher areas. The reprints sure put a few extra logs on the fire.

Name-calling and ad hominem is counter-productive to provoking discussion.
