And that is exactly my point. Military weapons, good for military applications. Do you need an M16 for home defense? I'm not against the ownership of firearms for range use, hunting, or personal security. But AK-47s? That is just taking the piss. I'm quite aware of the usefulness of automatic weapons in the field (of combat), but barring a zombie apocalypse is there any need for military style weapons in the home?

If you want to fire military weapons join the military or go to a gun club. You don't need one in your home.
Some people think it don't, but it be.

If you read my posts you will see that I have no objection to people using guns recreationally. We do in the UK. It is the ready availability of lethal weapons in the home that causes so many deaths. It is just too easy to settle an argument with a bullet. If all you wanted was target practice then you would be happy with an air rifle, or do you feel the need to be able to kill someone when the mood takes you?

I do find it tragic that we have this one country on Earth where the population is comparatively well educated and which could reduce its murder rate by 90%, but thanks to commercial interests a significant element still want to have, and their neighbours to have, guns in their homes.
I find it tragic that instead of supporting and existing legal system we have knee jerk anti-gun activists who try to exploit every tragic gun related incident.
They fail to make the elementary connection that a weapon like a handgun or high powered rifle has no intent of it's own. It requires a human to provide that intent.
Anti-gun activists play on the emotions of the weak minded. IMHO

Not so at all, I have bought guns numbering in the hundreds, and I bought them with thoughts of keeping some and trading some, repairing some and selling some, and I still own in a safe room in my fathers house in Central Oregon a goodly number of them, [most likely 60 or 70] with ammo, some were brought home from Germany during the WW2, some were bought new by my grandfather at the turn of the century, so they are now in my family for over 100 years.

And I have never thought of killing anyone with any of the long or short guns, at any time, when I bought them, when I cleaned them or when I shot them, and as I have always carried a concealed weapons permit I have never had to wait for the cooling down period required by some states before delivery of a purchase.
And now with both my sons dead I will have no one to leave them to, maybe one of my grandsons will want them.

I own seven guns and have a concealed weapons permit, to legally carry.

My guns are locked up safely in the U.S.

Also, the US government (mainly Congress) and state legislatures have dropped the ball on persecuting gun crimes carried out by criminals.

    In my state (Washington State),

If you point a gun at a person, that is a 3-year mandatory minimum sentence + 1 year for "firearm enhancement."

Point a gun at 2 people and you get a 7 year sentence.

One fella from my hometown found this out - the hard way.

    .

This is my point. We already have adequate laws which aren't being adequately enforced. If they were we'd seeing far fewer firearm related incidents.

Back to the OP... where it was found that boys became "dispirited and withdrawn when they are told such play-fighting is wrong."

Recall back in the '80's when women were supposed to go for guys who were 'in touch with their feminine side' (whatever the fok that is) and studies found later chicks found such girly-men - whimps?

Right...don't let young boys play with squirt guns, BB guns etc. and turn 'em all into a bunch a pussys...

Sounds like a few of the posters on this thread must have spent hours in the study to see if it really made em Pussy Men, and it seemed to have worked.

Tell us Thormaturge, how long did it take to turn out ??
