Chicago has a ban on firearms. If you do executive protection, armed security, a PI or a policemen, then you could get a license. I was able to get around the law and I always carried a gun in the states. Here I can't. However, I feel safer here than in Chicago. That may eventually be my demise....

Really? Does America not control vehicle exhaust omissions? Are there not controls over what you may or may not burn in your yard for fear of polluting the atmosphere? Are there not controls over what you may erect on your land for fear that it may not look pretty?

You are happy with not being allowed to smoke up Arkansas, or not making the neighbourhood unsightly, but you want to give psychopaths the right to own a gun.

Yes. I come from the UK where the suggestions I have made are in place and the country is a much safer place to live. The regular cops don't need to carry guns and the per capita murder rate is 10% of America's.

Boy that would sure stop the terrorist shit wouldn't it,, coarse most of the terror is done not with sporting weapons but with 50 KG powder packs and rockets.. But you keep making noises likle that and someone will cover you up.
Who is talking terror? I am referring to everyday murder, most of which is committed by people who know each other and with small arms, not with powder kegs and rockets, but in a country where any nutter is allowed to own an RPG I can see how nobody would consider it unusual for the neighbours to own the odd rocket or two.

As far as terrorism is concerned I fail to see how having the right to bear arms would have prevented 9/11.

Where do the outlaws get the guns?

They steal them from the houses of lawful gun owners. No guns to steal, no guns on the street.

I can understand why America has these crazy gun laws. They defeated the Brits and a lot of their soldiers were local militia with their own guns. Very relevant to the time the laws were made, can't see anyone needing to own a assault rifle in this day and age. Military weapons are designed to kill people why let the civvies own them?
Some people think it don't, but it be.

If illegal immigrants and drugs can be got into a country easily, then I'm sure guns are no problem.

Righto then, I expect that's the last we'll be hearing comments from you on any issue anywhere in the world other than the US then. Nice one.

Sure, when the Jihadist Muzzies will cut your throat yelling "Allah o Akbar" - could be anytime now, they're about to take over the world and Thai Muslim rebels operate throughout the country to kill off all infidels.

You are sounding stupid again, Psycopaths are not allowed to own a gun in the USA, There are all number of reasons that prevent people from legally owning guns,

As you might have noticed, the right to keep and bear arms did not stop 9/11, the right to keep and bear arms is one of the freedoms that the American people have held for themselves whether it has anything to do with protecting world freedom or not is a moot point, There were no firearms involved in 9/11, I heard that there were a few small box cutter knives but no firearms, so you are sounding like a fool again.
No one in the USA is allowed to legally own an RPG, nor a full autofire weapon, there are special licenses for collectors to hold such weapons, you seem to actually know very little about what you are trying to seem expert on tho.

This issue is much more complex that it appears to non Americans. It is complicated by the fact that there are 50 states, each with its own gun control laws; some of which are more or less lax than others. Each state has very precise rules for who can buy a gun, what kind of background check to run, how long the cooling off period is, and whether or not you can bear arms. Most states do not allow any private citizen to wear a concealed loaded weapon without a special permit. In fact, in most states, you cannot even have a loaded gun in the car. You may have a gun in the car if the clip is separate or if the pistol is unloaded.

There is so much dis-information about this topic outside the US. However, the divergent laws means that people who want guns go to the states where it's easiest to buy them and do so legally under that state's laws.

It's more intricate than it appears.

And, basically not rocket science either. Your government trusts its populace with firearms or it dosen't. What's next? Control of knives? A firearm is only a tool - why complicate the issue.

Wrong again, Mexico used to have a lot of legal guns, everyone had em, then the govt said no guns, so they gathered em all up, now they have been imported and only bad guys got em, even the police have a hard time getting ammo, some cops only own 2 rounds for their pistol. If you are stopped on the hyway and they find a spent 22 cal, spent case, they take your car and you go to prison.

And you do not know to much about firearms or the American Revolution either.
Why would a gun be designed to kill just humans, a gun is designed to shoot where you aim it, thats called GUN CONTROL, and if you have good enough control then you can kill a rock chuck, wood chuck, coyote, deer or about anything you want to.
If you are somewhat mentally deficient then you might see firearms as designed to kill different things, most folks just see then as firearms and made to shoot.

But still I would think that there is murder hot spots in each country too, not every city would have high rates across the board.
Baltimore and Wash.DC are very high

Thailand has a very high rate of illegal gun ownership and murders by guns. It is very difficult for an average law abiding citizen to own a gun, yet they are rampant on the black market.

Gun control doesn't work, it penalizes the law abiding people.

Guns, cars, knives, etc do not kill people. People kill people. You can ban things all you want and the people will still kill.
