    Pattaya - Nong Nooch

Nong Nooch is about 16 kms from South Pattaya. It is in an area of about 500 acreswith a mini zoo, cultural shows and landscaped gardens. Open from 0800 - 1800 hours with and entrance fee of 300 baht for adults and 150 for kids (only 100 baht for adults if not wanting to see the cultural show. I done this trip out there a couple of years ago and booked it through one of the many travel places in Pattaya as a half day tour, but for the life of me can't remember how much it cost. If I go to Pattaya again I would certainly go again but would spend the whole day there. Well I am garden and flower mad

There appeared to be adequate restaurants there and is there is much to keeps the kids entertained. Would be a good family day out IMHO.

This is probably the first view that you will see of the place, just before you get the the main coach disgorging area. Trust me to get a bloody lamppost in the middle of the photo

I'm going to load some video clips of the place as I walk you all through this so this thread is going take me a while to do

Had a good day there earlier this year, but my only concern was the way the animals were treated. Gibbons are a protected species i think, and chaining them to trees for our pleasure is definitely not the way forward.
    Everything else was good though

I aint superstitious, but I know when somethings wrong

^ Have to agree with you there, also with the photographers with their animals at the main entrance. But as you say the rest was good

At this area we have the usual array of souvenir shops, photographers etc and the orchid house/gardens

Sorry about the quality of some of the photos as they were taken by a friend on a cheapo camera and the colours dont look right. I was busy taking the video so hardly used me camera. A short vid of some orchids

Having spent a half hour roaming around the entrance area it is time to set off up the hill to the cultural show. This area here fascinated me as everything had been made and formed with clay pots.

A couple of views as we walk up to the main show area

The layout and display of the garden beds was very good. However it did annoy me to see that they were only placed in position in the pots, and not actually planted. Probably due to the fact if one plant dies it as easy to change and also the bad quality of the soil.

Little tip here - its probably advisable to sit a bit back from the stage as it is quite big and would not take all in. Thats OK as long as you don't get some stupid Korean sit in front of you and refuse to take his hat off

Would you consider this a full day out??
ive been twice and after 2 hours both times found myself wondering whats next.
the shows were an extra charge and many of the rarer animals were inhiding that day.
also the guy who takes photos of the tiger with customers, pissed off with my money when my misses had a photo took, said come back in ten mins and never seen him again.
on the upside i found the gardens to be beautifull and loved the cactus especially.
worth the entrance fee of600thb not sure, prefered the bangkok dusit zoo

For me yes - but agreed not for all. You have to know that I am a gardener by trade and so much of the stuff in the gardens cannot be grown in the UK. I was there for about 3 to 3 and half hours and never saw half the stuff I wanted to. The topiary is amazing and a lost art in this country. Admitted I also went to both the Cultural and Elephant show so that took up about an hour and half.

Next part of the show was Thai boxing and Martial Arts. All staged I know but choreographed (sp) well and had most of the audience laughing, had to watch around the 'ring' to see that.

    ^ What happened next ?

It was a short walk to the elephant arena. As I know some of you have varying thoughts about these shows I will only post a couple of pictures and no video. On the whole the show which lasted about 30 mins was enjoyable and also a good laugh. I didn't see any signs of maltreatment of the elephants and there was a plentyful supply of bananas that you could buy at 20 baht a pop for feeding of them after and during the show.

Been twice now and I got to say the place is set up pretty good, the gardens are excellent and elephant show was fun - the only things i did not like for me was the monkeys chained to the trees with iron rings and chain and general animal health care was crap, im glad the tiger was drugged out of its eye balls as it did look a bit on the slim side and reckon it would have gulped anyone down if it had any wits about it, would i do the 3rd visit? only if the animal situation gets sorted
