    Chiang Mai - Cambodia

I`m coming back to Chiang Mai on the 5th December.
The current plan is to have a couple of weeks there, then head for Cambodia.
What I fancy doing,is getting a day time train, were possible, to go to Cambodia on. I know I can fly there, but you dont see much, same with a night train. Thai buses are a definate no-no.
Has anyone got any info on trains to Cambodia....I`m assuming that I`ll have to head for Bangkok first ??

There is a train from Hua Lamphong to Aranyaprathet. It's 3rd class only, costs 48 Baht and takes around 6 hours to get there. It leaves at 05.55 or 13.05 You will then need to get a tuk-tuk from the station to the border. Once you get to Cambodia, there is no train and you'll have to arrange a taxi or take a bus if you want to go elsewhere in Cambodia.

Personally, I wouldn't waste time doing that. I'd go to Chaing Kong/Hua Xai (Laos) and take a boat down the Mekhong to Luang Prabang. Then the bus to Vang Vien and onward to Vientiene. It's a lot more interesting than Cambodia IMO.

Where you heading in Cambodia then?

If your off to Siem Reap from Aranya Prathet/Poipet rent one of the hire salon cars and drivers .Bloody hell do you get there quick and its like being in a rally car.The roads are appalling. They were last May surfacing a small section.
    Safe journey.
