I've got a best mate, Alaskan king crab fisherman. He used to come here every time he hit the bucks. Caught VD from the same girl 3 times in 5 months. He still says it was worth it. Kai her name was.

    Great pics.
I have similar pics from ao sane beach in phuket and karta and karon but sans people, this is around 1979.
I remember staying at cha weng in the only bungalows on the beach in the late seventies. They were financed by two swedish seamen, but all one heard all day was the sound of hammers on nails as bungalows were being built everywhere.
At this time the northern islands were out of bounds,no full moon parties then.
Except by the fisherman/pirates who preyed on the vietnamese refugees and kept women as sex slaves on islands like ko phangyan, after murdering the others.
Phuket and koh samui were still quite dangerous places for white women especially, several white women were raped on beaches on koh samui in the late seventies.

And I was in partnership with Roy and Rune, 1977. This was at the time Chewang Guest house the third set of bungalows on Chewang Yai, from the Chewang Noi side. Only the dirt road and you werent going anywhere if it rained. Plus there was no road Chewang Lamai, you had to go around through Nathon.
Did you hear the almost one year of dynamite as they built the cement road around the island? This would have been 1979 or 1980 and it took over two years to finish it. Same damn little road they have now.

I wonder if I knew you Mark?? Blast from the past.

Finally found a bungalow resort that wasn't booked solid until after the new year. Went with one on Ao Thong Nai Pan Yai. Hopefully it's a nice beach where I can just chill with the g/f without too many annoyances (backpackers).

    Anyone for beachcombing?
Has anyone seen my plastic bottle?
    tribal spastics
    What's this island called again?
    picnic?
I can't believe those package tourists coming here and ruining this beautiful country. Come on Quentin, lets dance elsewhere.

post a comment Khyle Lewis in Bangkok 05-Nov-2005 10:42Disgraceful! I blame the people who work there NOT THE FOREIGNERS. It's their island, if they want to let it rot thats up to them. Just like that hippie explained, everybody used to do their part back in the day. That im afraid doesnt seem to apply to nowadays. A compromise must be reached by the people in charge. The land owners, hotel staff ect. better clean up their act or they gonna lose EVEN MORE money. BUY SOME BINS YOU CHEAP BASTARDS
little_sis 22-Aug-2005 18:22Funny captions - I was unsure whether to go along to a FMP but this has definately made up my mind NOT to go - thank you.
Serena Bowles 22-Aug-2005 14:56These are hilarious!
Meg 25-Feb-2005 01:13hilarious photos. i love the captions, especially on the freak street page. i spent several months in SEA last year and although i went to great lengths to avoid the pretentious, pseudo-hippie "ohhh, i'm a REAL traveler" assholes, it was impossible. they are everywhere! they are taking over and eating our children! RUN to the nearest beach NOT mentioned in a lonely planet guide....they'll never think to find you there!

SandyMan 17-Jan-2005 16:19I am a 55 year old hippie... I was in Goa in 1974.... we clean up our trash.. we where enviromental. I was on Koh Phangan, Thailand for 2 months in 1993... Koh Phangan is where the biggest Full Moon Party is held. That was the only place on the island I did not go. My Thai friends did not talk to friendly about the freaks there, the trash there.. Where do all those people go to the toilet? Man what a weird, irresponsible, commercial generation that doesn't care too much about the aftermath...

    Keep your karma white

Concerned_Viewer 09-Jan-2005 04:26Just found the link that Bazookajoe posted on ToA. Dear God! Please tell me that this is a joke, right? This is *really* the FMP? People actually *wish* to indulge in such behaviour? You're joking, right?

I've been clubbing (now semi-retired from the scene) for a good 13 years and this *isn't* clubbing - it's a freak show, all the more horrible by the utter disdain shown by the disgusting amount of litter everywhere. To think, I had an argument with an (ex) friend in Thailand, partly due to the fact that I didn't want to attend a FMP, and a 25 year friendship was duly ended.

After viewing these pictures, thank f**k I made the right decision!

I feel utterly embarrassed just by viewing these pictures. They actually cease to be funny and are rather painful and cringe-inducing to view.

    Regards,
    Concerned_Viewer

Yeah I noticed that as well. Perhaps if the above poster followed the handy guide to posting that DD posted he might have better luck.
