A good rib place in Pattaya...

My favorite food. Before this week the best ribs I had in Thailand were either from China Garden or the short ribs from Thai street vendors. Both delicious and both far superior to the Great american Rib Company who quite frankly have not been trying hard enough for a long time.

However I crave a rack or a half a rack of ribs with authentic sauce and flavor of the USA every now and again so I'm always on the look out for a new place to disappoint my high expectations.

There is a new/old place (refurb) next to Jolly Friar on soi Lenkee. Forget the name. Popped in recently for the special. Ribs were the star of my plate with the sides a little smaller than anticipated. However it worked perfectly in terms of having enough to mix everything properly. The ribs are fantastic now. A few months back they were average. Same as everywhere else.

Did the place change hands? Looks like they might have spent some money on the place too. Don't remember the decoration being as nice. It is quite a nice looking place now.
I'd say if you like good ribs it could be a winner. Really hope I did not catch it on a one off good day and the food remains consistently good.

Finally as an edit could I just make it clear that this is the Pattaya forum and no one gives a fuck about BKK rib places here. There is a BKK forum for that.

I've been highly complemented with the pork ribs I cook up on the Grill and plan on doing some here again very soon now that the subject has been brought up.

Hippopotamus at Mega Bangna does good ribs.

When the staff can be bothered to serve you that is.....and go early because they close at ten so you get the bill around 9.30.

I'll have to try that place at Mega Bangna as I am also keen on a nice rib. I normally go to Tony Roma's , but it's a shlep for me to go down the Sukhumvit end of town , so thanks for the heads up.

Has anybody had proper Greek ribs in Thailand? That is my preferred style but I've yet to see them here. Greek restaurants seem to be almost non existent.

I tried the ribs at Bourbon Street recently and they were a very big disappointment. The sides are terrible too; stewed zucchini and a piece of dry cornbread.

Great ribs at Casper's in Udon.

That's nearer Pattaya than New Orleans is.

I buy my own pork ribs and marinate overnight in Tabasco, and it still isn't hot enough.

Perhaps if you had started by specifying Pattaya then we could all have ignored the thread completely.

The clue was that it was posted on the Pattaya forum. Sorry you couldn't work that out. Thanks for playing though.

Greek food is shit that's why. If it was any good there would be lots of Greek restaurants.

The "LoneStar" joint next to Jolly Frier didn't make it with me. Had both the ribs and a "steak" there. The steak was a complete joke.

I think the ribs are "okay" on the Saturday/Sunday buffet.

If you "like" the short ribs normally found in Thai soup, the BBQ up by(across from) the Big Eye live sex show is actually decent. They cook the entire slab(after it's cut in half/quarters) and you make your own sauce out of what's available. Overall if you select carefully and prepare a decent sauce very eatable with a cold beer. Hot chicken wings also there but timing is everything on both. 20baht tip gets both brought to your table off the grill and/or out of the fryer.

There was also a time which has passed when they had decent ribs at the Apex but I've not been there in many years.

    Cheers. Nok
