Red shirt inmate dies at Lak Si prison | Bangkok Post: news

Red shirt inmate dies at Lak Si prison
A red shirt inmate died at Lak Si temporary prison yesterday, with forensic officers still working to determine the cause of his death.

Wanchai Raksa-nguansilp, a 30-year-old red-shirt detainee, fainted and collapsed yesterday morning. He was rushed to hospital where doctors tried to save his life using a ventilator. He was later pronounced dead.

In October last year, Udon Thani provincial court sentenced Wanchai to 22 years and six months imprisonment for trespassing and burning Muang Udon Thani municipality office on May 19, 2010. He was later moved from the provincial prison to Lak Si prison for political prisoners.

Sorasit Chongcharoen, commander of the Bangkok Remand Prison, said an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of Wanchai's death.

He said the inmate had been well treated by prison officials and he appeared healthy and exercised regularly.

A fellow inmate said Lak Si prison held sports activities yesterday morning. Wanchai looked on as fellow inmates played a game of checkers. He then went to the toilet. Afterward, he went for a drink of water and suddenly fainted.

The inmate, who asked not to be named, said Wanchai complained of chest pains but did not tell prison officials.

Korbkiat Kasiwiwat, deputy director-general of the Corrections Department, said Wanchai was believed to have a health problem.

Red shirt supporters yesterday grieved for Wanchai. His death is the second death of a jailed red shirt this year after lese majeste prisoner Ampon Tangnoppakul, known as Ah Kong, died in Bangkok Remand Prison on May 8.

Sorry to read this sad news ,but looking on the bright side his loved ones will be amply compensated by the guy who bought the reds lock stock and barrel in his egomaniac trip to get back into power as early as possible ,but no problems now as his puppet sister is there to do his every bidding ,I mean lets have it right what does the life of one or even a hundred ill educated Issan political pawns matter just so long as "The Godfather" can plunder the Countries wealth without them having a fucking clue that they are being "used" BIG STYLE .

And what sentence might you receive if you raped and murdered a woman? Less, in Thailand.

An arsonist, OK, (I'll accept the verdict) but a Terrorist? That is ridiculous, and you well know it.

Meanwhile, not one single yellow protester- who's alleged offences predate the UDD by two years or so- has yet to serve time, or even get to the sentencing stage of the judicial process. Disgusting and hypocritical. If there is one thing that might topple Yingluck, it might come from here. People hate such blatant double standards and 'sanctioned' judicial corruption.

^ I didn't remember this from the first time round but when I read this story on Prachatai, they also reported that in addition to the insanely long sentences, the defendants were also fined (collectively) 57,000,000 baht on which interest is being charged at 7.5%/year.

yes the real tragedy is to let the poor monkey idiots foot the bills when the real culprit, that is the red leaders, are enjoying their millions for being good soldiers

who needs an opposition when the army can take care of things when things go wrong, Leo

    worked perfectly in 2006,

Democrats are useless opposition politicians, but they are very good at running an administration in time of crisis and that's about it. I think as the Palace party, it's their only role and they don't aspire to be anything else. Their role is basically similar to the crown property bureau.

There is no opposition in Thailand, because they have no political idea. Their idea of democracy is about taking wealth from one group to give it to another, not a true balance of power.

In some ways, they are on the right path and should convert to Socialism, a worthy cause, far better than the illusion of Democracy

Yes , sadly no such thing as a yellow shirt inmate and never will be.

22 years for arson but kill a policeman with a Ferrari whilst drunk driving ..... no problemo.

Still, as Mark is fond of saying

" No one is above the law "

he forgot to add that only red shirts are under it.

I would agree with riot and arson are not the stuff of terrorism, no more there than 18 months ao in the uk. However was his sentence rediculus by Thai standards? Rember that by Thai standards property crimes have always been treated far more seriously than crimes against the person, and arson is a property crime.

Is 22 years for arson hash compared to simular arson sentences and how does it compaire to the sentences for stealing lotion from boots, defrauding the Dutch embassy of about 30 million baht, or the toll way of a couple of 100k?

Broadly similar content, too: a perverse delight in your own stupidity and general cluelessness, though on both you beat him hands down.

Wrong. And not for the first, or the last, time.

It's a country, not a world, it's Asian, not Western, and สองมาตรฐาน is something you hear and read over and over and over again but as a regular reader of the นปช websites(s), you'd know that already, wouldn't you.

hate to pop your bubble, but we had in the past on TD plenty of red farang idiots who had dreams and were day dreaming with long speeches on Thailand Democracy, all to fall into logic fallacy as soon as real debates were in play. DrB comes to mind and some other fools we had here previously.

writing and reading Thais doesn't give you any particular insights of the real situation, just an illusion that you understand, while in reality you don't.

basically the reds ideology is the Nana bargirl version of the sick buffalo and you are falling for it

Try to have a serious discussion with Thida, and you will see immediately she is just another dishonest manipulative bitch. Try Juthaporn, and you can see immediately that he is just another mafia boss.

The poor souls at the base who hope for better days are just the usual victims of promises that can't be kept. Quite sad, but not as sad as idiotic red farangs who think they will be witnessing any real change under a reds agenda.

Have no fear. There's no bubble but were there one, it would be quite beyond your reach.
writing and reading Thais doesn't give you any particular insights of the real situation,
No but it gives you access to vastly more information on which to base your judgements. If you don't read Thai and you don't have very good informants, you're left with either relying on the nonsense in the Bangkok Post/Nation or making stuff up.
basically the reds ideology is the Nana bargirl version of the sick buffalo and you are falling for it
Fantastic! How long did you struggle for before coming up with that one? Do you do ghost writing for Thaivisa?
