Bad comparison, both were republics before voluntarily joining the United States.Originally Posted by Boon Mee

If a group of criminals takes 2 cops hostage does it become justified for the police to bomb half of downtown and kill hundreds of citizens?

I think he used the wrong term, "Israelis" refers to "Israel", which hsn't been around for very long.
One of the problems here is that "the land" is of religious importance for 3 religions, apart from the historic arguments.
I honestly can't remember now why it is so important for Islam.
Storekeeper:
There is major propaganda from the Israeli supporters in the U.S.
One piece of propaganda came from a book called "Time Immemorial" that was released in the 1980s. It's still on Amazon!
This author stated that no one was in Palestine before the Jews came. This author cited several sources. It was a bestseller in the U.S.
A you scholar named Finklestein (who is Jewish, and now a professor) investigated the book and wrote a thesis on it. He totally debunked the book based upon its factual errors.
He was severely punished for calling out the mistakes. His career was put on hold.
Why because he criticized false scholarship.
The British scholars totally ripped apart this book, and these British scholars were not punished at all.
If you are a professor, academic, journalist, writer, or actor, and you criticize Israel, you will likely pay a high price in the U.S.

That's because Britain is the 'Land of the Free'.Originally Posted by Milkman

Here is an excerpt on the American scholar who debunked the book, "Time Immemorial." To this day, we are not even sure who wrote the book:
"...Here's a story which is really tragic. How many of you know about the book by Joan Peters...FROM TIME IMMEMORIAL? It was a big scholarly-looking book with lots of footnotes, which purported to show that the Palestinians were all recent immigrants [i.e. to the Jewish-settled areas of the former Palestine, during the British mandate years of 1920 to 1948]...it got literally hundreds of rave reviews, and no negative reviews...there was all kinds of demographic analysis in it...a big professor of demography at the University of Chicago [Philip M. Hauser] authenticated it. Well, one graduate student at Princeton...Norman Finkelstein, started reading through the book...and he started checking the references--and it turned out that the whole thing was a hoax...probably put together by some intelligence agency.... Well, Finkelstein wrote up a short paper of just preliminary findings...and he sent it around to I think thirty people who were interested in the topic, scholars in the field and so on, saying: "Here's what I've found in this book, do you think it's worth pursuing?" Well, he got back [only] one answer, from me. I told him, yeah, I think it's an interesting topic, but I warned him, if you follow this, you're...going to expose the American intellectual community as a gang of frauds, and they are not going to like it, and they're going to destroy you. Well, he didn't believe me... Finkelstein's very persistent: he took a summer off and sat in the New York Public Library, where he went through every single reference in the book--and he found a record of fraud that you cannot believe... Meanwhile his professors--this is Princeton University, supposed to be a serious place--stopped talking to him: they wouldn't make appointments with him, they wouldn't read his papers, he basically had to quit the program... Very promising scholar--if he'd done what he was told, he would have gone on and right now he'd be a professor somewhere at some big university. That's a lot better than a death squad, it's true...but those are the techniques of control that are around..."
I don't want to appear petty, but what is the source for this, MM?
Here's another excerpt (Last one, I promise.)
I would like to thank Joan Peters for confirming that concocting a fraud is still an American tradition. The fallacious arguments presented in Peters thesis are discredited by her active participation in commiting a fraud. For anyone really interested in the facts about this book and the Israel-Palestine conflict I highly recommend Norman Finkelstein's book, Image and Reality of the Israel-Palestine Conflict. Supporters of Joan Peters are simply supporting the disinformation that has lead to the unbalanced opinion of the US today. The rest of the world recognizes this piece of literature as a fraud. Please take the time to look at the evidence for yourself.

The quote also comes from a book titled Understanding Power, written by a Jewish Author.
Which is why it was totally stupid for a foreign country to give the green light for another religious group to 'legally' immigrate there. This land was rightfully the Arabs' at the time massive Jewish immigration started (on the basis of some other country allowing it) and that's the whole reason for the inflammation now.Originally Posted by stroller
If this was 500 years ago and the Jews on their own accord lived in some other place and went on their own and conquered the territory now called Israel I doubt anyone would object to it. But the problem is that they didn't do this: some other country or entity told them to go there.

I think we've all heard of Noam Chomsky - not sure why Milkman didn't say his name.
^ Because some people will automatically be biased.
Thanks for the tip, RDN, but I believe it's the poster's responsibility to name the source.
Can't help it when people discard something because of the source, but one needs to give them the opportunity to check on it, there are good reasons for it: quotes can be taken out of context or the meaning changed by omission.
I often just quote the paragraphs from a text which I deem relevant - that's fair when I point poeple to where they may read the whole thing, if not, it may look that I am 'manipulating' an argument.
MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY BELOW
By Spanish writer Sebastian Villar Rodriguez
I walked down the street in Barcelona, and suddenly discovered a terrible truth - Europe died in Auschwitz. We killed six million Jews and replaced them with 20 million Muslims. In Auschwitz we burned a culture, thought, creativity, talent. We destroyed the chosen people, truly chosen, because they produced great and wonderful people who changed the world. The contribution of this people is felt in all areas of life: science, art, international trade, and above all, as the conscience of the world. These are the people we burned.
And under the pretence of tolerance, and because we wanted to prove to ourselves that we were cured of the disease of racism, we opened our gates to 20 million Muslims, who brought us stupidity and ignorance, religious extremism and lack of tolerance, crime and poverty due to an unwillingness to work and support their families with pride. They have turned our beautiful Spanish cities into the third world, drowning in filth and crime. Shut up in the apartments they receive free from the government, they plan the murder and destruction of their naive hosts.
And thus, in our misery, we have exchanged culture for fanatical hatred, creative skill for destructive skill, intelligence for backwardness and superstition. We have exchanged the pursuit of peace of the Jews of Europe and their talent for hoping for a better future for their children, their determined clinging to life because life is holy, for those who pursue death, for people consumed by the desire for death for themselves and others, for our children and theirs. What a terrible mistake was made by miserable Europe. [Or at least by its many antisemites, of whom Nazis were only one manifestation]
"The bodies of Iranian Revolutionary Guard soldiers killed by the Israeli army in Lebanon have been transported to Syria and flown to Tehran, senior Lebanese political sources said. Israeli and Egyptian security officials confirmed the news, which follows a report that first appeared in The New York Sun, that Iranian forces posted to southern Lebanon have been aiding Hezbollah terrorists in their attacks against Israel, including helping to fire rockets into Israeli population centers."
Jihad Watch: Iranian Revolutionary Guards killed in Lebanon, flown back to Iran via Syria
For so many citizens from Western countries to be preaching anything other than tolerance of the Jews is hypocritical. They've been persecuted by the Muslims for centuries. An undeniable fact. No matter what they do to try to coexist peacfully there will most likely always be Muslims and their insane sympathizers who want to kick them around.
Ya'll can keep fooling yourselves if that's what you choose to do, but these radical Muslims in today's age resent the Jews for their Western ways just as much as anything ... the same values you hold dear.
So you're saying now that China is our enemy ? Gawd you're making me piss myself everyday.Originally Posted by surasak

As for these arms the Israeli sold. They were either Israeli-made arms, which were likely funded by U.S. tax dollars, or American arms that the Israeli bought from the U.S. with the 2 billion dollars of taxpayer money Israel gets every year.
