Broke Farang threatens to jump from the 5th

Updated: [November 24, 2009 ] BROKE INCOHERENT FOREIGNER THREATENS TO COMMIT SUICIDE

BROKE INCOHERENT FOREIGNER THREATENS TO COMMIT SUICIDE : Pattaya Daily News

A foreigner has been coerced out of committing suicide at the Green Pattaya Hotel earlier today. The foreign man had allegedly run off on a taxi fair, claiming to have run out of money.

Pattaya, the 24th of November 2009 [PDN]: Police Lieutenant General Chonphat Nualak received a call that a foreign man was threatening to commit suicide at the Green Pattaya Hotel, at approximately 1:30pm. Lt Gen Nualak sent officers to investigate along with the Sawang Boriboon Foundation.

At the scene police were confronted with an unintelligible foreign man, standing on the edge of a 5th floor balcony threatening to jump. Police managed to stop him from jumping after a short while.

Police obtained a statement of the afternoons events from the taxi driver who was also present at the scene, Mr Panya Sealim age 49 (driver with the Bangkok Taxi Cooperative). Mr Sealim explained to police that he had given the foreign man a lift from the Bangkok Suvarnabhumi airport to Pattaya for an agreed price of 1,500 baht. Upon arriving at “The Tops” on Central Pattaya Road the man requested to get out, speaking to another foreign man on the roadside before proceeding to run to the Green Pattaya Hotel, where he proceeded to attempt to commit suicide.

A search of the man revealed that he was travelling without a passport and only had the credit card of a Mr Alexander Clouch age 34, of German Nationality in his possession. Police managed to comprehend that the foreign man had taken the taxi from the airport to Pattaya but did not have the money to pay for the fare, so he decided to commit suicide.

The police remain very sceptical of the whole situation as the young man in question still seems not to be fully aware of what he is saying. Officers will keep the man in custody until his mental state is improved, at which time he will be further questioned about the events surrounding this unusual incident.

I don't understand how could he arrive to the airport without passport and why he took a taxi to Pattaya if he was without money.

The poor man is downright confused as the Taxi driver obviously reverse drove all the way from Swampy to Pattaya (gearbox problems) and when he arrived he thought he was actually leaving to go home.

Not the first.........won't be the last!

I think there will soon come a time when all foreigners entering Thailand will have to lodge some form of surity money at the point of entry into the country ie 30.000 baht and if you fuck up like this numpty you loose yer deposit.

When it comes in remember the various numpties like the star in this post ,, these are the twats we will ALL have to suffer for

If they introduced such a bond visitors here would drop to almost 0.

It would be great for Cambodia and Laos though.

So what happens now? Lock him up? Set him free? Send him home?
Call the same Taxi driver to take him back to where he found him?

There is nothing to say that he actually ARRIVED at the airport by plane. He could have been seeing someone off (not the taxi driver!). In which case he wouldn't necessarily have had to be carrying his passport. He seemed to know his way around Pattaya, identifying a roadside "stranger"!

Obviously not a meter taxi then, surely he would've asked for the guy to use the meter?????

Oh look, how wrong I was....so was the taxi driver doing him a favour by charging 1,500bht??? I think not. So the taxi airport scams continue as normal..why aren't the police questioning the taxi driver on his fare charge????

Well there is one sliver lining the BIB can't charge him to get his passport back..which is the usual scam they pull as well!!!

Maybe he was also drugged and robbed in BKK and found himself in the airport...just lucky he didn't stray into King Power and get proper turned over....
